The Temp

This film has the most chaotic energy of a film I have seen all year. It doesn't know what it wants to be (a satire? a realistic depiction of the high-stakes world of cookie production?). Nothing ever gets explained. And then the movie just ends in the most hilarious low-effort way. It's not a good film, but it's also one I want more people to see. When Oliver Platt says he's deathly allergic to wasps, they may as well have had "THIS IS FORESHADOWING" flashing.

Lara and Faye give this some fun moments but this is a another lame example of cinema of the 80s/90s that reflects the straight-white-male fears of women becoming successful in the workplace. Highly unsatisfying resolution where the inadequate, loser white guy reasserts his dominance over the female threat. Fuck that noise.

It was clear pretty early it was bad but, I assumed it's cornball 80's thriller and rank misogyny were going to be flipped or twisted at some point, wow. A real mess editing-wise too. [DF]

So so thriller. I like Timothy Hutton in this but Boyle is terrible.
