The Tapes

Top badass moment? Filming outdoors on the one day in every century snow settles on England's south coast. Sadly nothing else really happens and when it does the movie just ends. Tatty farm sheds just don’t do it for me. If it has anything going for it, it really did sound like three young people messing about with a couple of cameras and talking bollocks all day. Yes, it’s that bad, although weirdly entertaining too. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations (except some pre-existing pig ones.)

I love that young troupes of students make indie horror movies together, putting their hearts into it, but they should know that they're never the second or third bunch to nick from Blair Witch. There have been dozens and dozens of them, and they all share the same fatal flaw: that the 'found footage' format itself does nothing but call attention to its own contrivance. The one thing that sets The Tapes apart is that it's a bit simpler and less pretentious than others, which is a good thing.
