It's not reinventing the genre, and I don't mind. Maybe it's because of the large number of horror movies without scares I've seen recently, but this one at least has semi-creepy stuff happening at regular intervals and Jill Larson makes for a pretty effective Scary Old Lady. I also liked how the character with at least half a brain goes 'hey you know what this is creepy I'm outta here' and successfully exits the story. Go team cowardice!

I think a chance was missed here as Alzheimer's is terrifying enough in its own right. Old people are inherently creepy, unsurprisingly the film's best moments involve simply that. The supernatural stuff goes too far too fast and though it leads to an incredible image as noted by Hawkins, I think this would've worked better without all the black magic. This is all speculative, of course, since I couldn't stop thinking about camera angles. Found Footage for the WIN!

It can hang its hat on one supremely disturbing ouroboros scene but the rest of the scares are average found footage fare. Have to give it a shout out for including a character who, after witnessing a pattern of freaky supernatural shit during his stay, actually gets in his car and says "fuck all this I'm leaving" and drives away from the movie for good. I stood up and cheered for that man.

Actual horror in a found footage horror film, and we got to see the monster to boot! As a horror film, it's conventional (I want to name the Lovecraft story it reminds me of, but it would spoil the mystery), but it's body horror, which is rare. The found footage was understated here, and the validation for it was sturdy enough to suspend my disbelief long enough to forget how weird it is that anyone would edit murder footage. Big ups for having a character say 'fuck it' and then leave the film.

A nasty little "found-footage" horror film that exploits the creepiness of Alzheimer's to suggest something even creepier. As usual, the hand-held camera soon becomes irritating, but this film benefits from two fine performances--Jill Larson ("All My Children's" Opal Courtlandt) as the demented mother and Anne Ramsay ("Mad About You"'s Liza Stemple) as her at-wit's-end daughter--and a handful of genuinely scary moments.

Holy Batman ! This movie seriously scared the crap outta me and I don't scare easily What seems to start out as documentary about a woman struggling with Alzheimer's quickly takes a dark turn I don't know if it's my own phobias about snakes the occult plotline or both but this movie messed with my head I was literally jumping and screaming

An average entry into the kind of unfortunately burgeoning found footage horror genre. It's creepy and explores genuine fears about Alzheimer's, but I could have done without the weird-ass snake shit.

There was one inspired image near the end, but otherwise it's the billionth variation on The Exorcist with some [rec] thrown in... and is this supposed to be "found footage" or something? Because by some point I had no idea who was filming and why the hell they're still doing it. Which often happens with that genre.

What starts off as an inventive horror movie about illness, spirals into one that is too supernatural for its own good. It's relatively unknown cast is actually quite good, but its plot is a bit too much, unfortunately. The direction is actually tolerable for found footage though, so kudos to Robitel.

Nothing terrific, but there are a few surprisingly effective scares. I say surprisingly because the shots that are the scariest mostly consist of Deborah - a relatively normal looking old lady - just standing and doing nothing. Old people are scary, I guess?

Certainly a cliché, but nonetheless very well-executed: this film is extraordinarily well-edited compared to some of its fellows in the found footage genre, and the slow creation of our monster certainly reaches a glorious culmination. The transformation of Logan into a snake-man opening up her mouth is the perfect zenith for her evolution into Desjardin. Ending, too, is almost smug; rather than feel uncertain or unsure, we almost experience Desjardin's triumph. Nothing new, but well done.

Decent horror movie that is creative in using Alzheimer's to tell a spooky story. The 3rd act kind of drags into a walk up to monster, get scared, monster runs, repeat and the plot goes a litle off the deep end because of this. But the actress playing Deborah Logan carries this movie as both a good and creepy actress

Aside from being effectively and succinctly crafted within the messy confines of found footage, The Taking of Deborah Logan is especially effective through its sheer tyranny of will. You could be doing a crossword puzzle while you're watching it and no doubt find yourself equally as caught up in the pure visceral dread and terror of it.

L'actrice qui joue Deborah Logan a ce charme britith, et apporte une plus-value nécessairee au rôle. Et la virée borderline est intéressante, jusqu'aux dernières minutes du film pas très convaincantes.

Unintentionally funny. The film is so poorly constructed and acted (by all but the titular role) that it feels like more like an episode of Parks and Rec than a horror movie.

An uninspired mishmash of Skeleton Key and Blair Witch, this flick gives found footage horror a bad name. It's a shame because a lot of ideas in the script are interesting and Larson is legitimately a top-class actress that gives a tour de force terrifying performance. But when the script is predominantly a shaky camera walking around in the dark with some character calling "Deborah? Deb?" and Larson just standing there in her nightgown (repeated 100 times), well that just kinda sucks.

Although the story is quite formulaic in its approach and there's nothing really new or original here, the scares work and the effects are few and pretty good.

Solid performances, mostly good use of the found footage format, a whole lot of genuine tension & atmosphere, & a unique take on the demonic possession trope. Jill Larson is the clear standout as Deborah Logan, delivering a great performance. The attention to character details was very appreciated. There are some stumbles in the plot, and some of the footage used doesn't make much sense, but all in all those faults are outweighed by the positives. Give this one a look if you haven't yet.
