The Swordsman

While not the top of the class in this genre, it's definitely a good example of it. It's more of a drama for quite a bit of it, but there are a couple short fights scattered throughout, leading to the much bigger--and incredibly satisfying--battle in the conclusion. The plot is a tad underbaked but mostly works. What prevents it from a 90 is that in terms of the visual aesthetic it's relatively plain. Not bad, just not substantial.

A very satisfying sword fighting movie. Excellent story and plot points, charismatic characters, exciting fight sequences, and a minimum of strange cultural weirdness. Extra points for Jang Hyuk in his role as the skilled swordsman loosing his sight. The bad guys are a bit two dimensional. I would have liked it better without the guns. The fighting action makes this very entertaining and worthwhile. It keeps you interested.
