The Swordsman

A nice looking kilt'ed swashbuckler in Technicolor with the wrong leading man and starving for action. Did not live up to its potential.

Lewis creates some interestingly edited action sequences, and some delightful compositions with unusual foregrounds (a love scene framed by birds is particularly remarkable), Ellen Drew is beautiful, George Macready is coldly evil as usual, and the Technicolor is magnificent, but a boring script, a laughable kilt-wearing Edgar Buchanan and the grinning contemporary face of Larry Parks in a role meant for Flynn or Power rob the film of much credibility. Still a treat for Lewis fans, though.
