The Swimmers

A story that seems worth telling indeed, and while skillfully told there's room for improve the nuances. Feels romanticized and less gloom than reality. Which is fine, it's a movie. Not a sport's movie though, it's an European refugee crisis movie.

I mistakenly thought it would be more of a sports movie, the sports side of the story is just a backdrop. It is a decent film about the refugee crisis in Europe. For a second I thought they would show Germany as angels, but I liked the realistic tone. It does a good job of showing what people are still going through today..

While "The Swimmers" may not be the best version of itself, there's still plenty to like here. The story of Yusra Mardini is an incredible one, and the central performances are engaging and authentic. While the screenplay is clunky and disjointed at times, director Sally El Hosaini's passion for the story shines through, and there are some truly breathtaking shots that make the film memorable.

Worth watching, but this story deserves a better director/cinematographer
