The Sun Comes Up

Jeanette MacDonald's final movie is a Lassie flick! Well, she out-stages the dog as a mother mourning the loss of her son, trying to recover from her sorrow by going out into the countryside meeting a bunch of characters, and Lassie is just a means to connect them. I liked the movie. Safe and predictable old school family movie, but with the likes of Percy Kilbride being the moral compass and Claude Jarman Jr. as her replacement son, the films becomes a slightly somber sweet tale.
