Every time I watch 'the Sum of All Fears' I get the nagging feeling that somewhere in that same movie universe, there's something much more interesting going on, that we're deliberately kept from watching. As an example, there's a significant terror attack in the film, where the focus is on the blast wave only - not the actual explosion. Also, Ryan is just really annoying with his "I have a hunch! Mr. President, PLEASE! LISTEN TO MY HUNCH!!"

Middling by-the-numbers conspiracy thriller misses Harrison Ford's authoritative presence as Ryan (Affleck makes a wan substitute), but the well-stocked supporting cast almost compensates, especially in Bates' wonderfully slimy almost-swansong. Stretches (and breaks) credibility at several key junctures, and undermines its admittedly brilliant (and terrifying) mid-section set piece by milking the preceding scenes for unnecessary (and unbelievable) suspense. Still fun enough to be watchable.

Although it is completely forgettable and generally unoriginal, it is pretty watchable and inoffensive. A good movie to fall asleep to is about the biggest compliment I'm going to give it.

While attempting to be a serious drama it shatters reality with implausability and unrealistic situations and reactions to said situations. Thus killing any chance of taking it as seriously as they wish you would. Mediocre, nothing more.

Some of all fears, not all of 'em just some. These fears include the safety and security of the free world hinging on Ben "Horsefaced" Affleck and the possibility of Liev Schreiber gutting me like a salmon after I mistakenly confused him with Avery Schreiber. These are just some of the fears I learned here.

A decent thriller with a great cast, but why oh why the love subplot? Is it in Ben Affleck's contract, that if he stars in a movie he has to have an annoying romantic subplot where you just hope that they both die?

I thought it was a pretty damn solid thriller. Haven't read the book, so I have no idea how it compares, but it held a lot of parallels to what is happening in the world today (some 20 years later), even if in this one, Russia is not really the bad guy. I agree with what a lot of reviews said about Ben Affleck not feeling right for this role. He's done a lot of good serious roles in other movies, such as Gone Girl, but he just doesn't feel like he fits in this story.

This isn't a bad movie, but it is rather contrived. The amount of things they have to do to give the room for poor decisions being made in this movie is rather large. If you like political thrillers for the sake of political thrillers you'll enjoy it, but it's certainly not the best film based off a Tom Clancy book.

I had watched this movie before but this time I think I paid more attention to the movie and I liked it quite a bit. Ben Affleck plays Jack Ryan in this John Clancy book turned into a movie. The plot has America and Russia played against each other by a terrorist group. There is a lot of star power in this movie which helped push it over the edge for me. I liked that this movie actually had the bomb go off. Too many times in movies like this nothing ever goes wrong. Change is good.

It distracts from, and mostly makes up for its mind-numbing stupidity with an entertaining briskness and style. In my mind, it misses the mark a few too many times, though, in terms of choices that could've been made to make its case more effectively.

Man, a whole lot of war could have been averted if only the CIA had some sort of bureaucracy in place that would allow a second in command to take over in case the head guy in incapacitated and would allow Ryan to give vital information to proper decision-makers.

A pretty decent film. I am not always the biggest fan of Ben Affleck and it was especially hard to see him play the same role that Harrison Ford had been playing in a few movies.
He did an ok job though. I also liked Morgan Freeman in this and Liev Schreiber.
I'm glad I saw this movie at least once but I probably don't plan on seeing it again.
Tom Clancy can write a great story though. Let's hope that a scenario like this never happens because everything escalated so fast in this film. Scary

55 doesn't mean it's a bad movie, but in times of thousands productions of comparable titles it's just average. Good to see once as it's plot from Tom Clancy's book is interesting. Don't know if Affleck should play this role. Few moments brings a little smile on your face when things go little plastic but overally worth watching in spare time.

The film version of a young Jack Ryan leaves a little to be desired. It's tough to see how he will bud into the Harrison Ford portrayed Ryan we have come to love.
