The Stray Bullet

A bit over dramatic at times and at times I felt my attention wandering during the main story but the background of the story always packed a punch.

Very strong and somewhat bleak noirish postwar movie. The cinematography is really good and is really important in establishing that mood, especially as things get going in the second half. It's missing something I can't quite put my finger on that makes it a little sluggish. That might be due to the subtitles, though, which were at times hard to read. The bleakness is also in that middle ground where it's not imposing enough to be impacting but also doesn't have a fun side to balance it out.

A real sunny story. There's about three minutes of semi-happiness in the whole film, when the brother reunites with a nurse from the war. And then... well, I won't spoil it, but it sure isn't good news. Of course, some of the best movies are depressing ones. This isn't one of the best, but it's not bad at all. A little over-the-top in its melodrama, but it kept me interested and all the performances seemed fine.
