The Strangler

Victor Buono elevates this from being more than just a debrained Hitchcock exercise (not that I would’ve minded either way). But he just controls every inch of the screen. The intro shot is an all timer love it

Probably a Psycho cash-in, this starts off ok when we learn the kind-eyed Buono's in love & she views him w/ some affection, but that's not explored. Instead, it's a cat & mouse procedural which seems to be taking pride in being based in the latest psychological ideas of the period (which, take note, have completely changed - no one would dare blame mommy again), but that's too dry when we don't know most of the kills. The only "suspense" is when he'll get caught. BTW, was the last girl rescued?

Pretty dry (too much the police procedural). But Buono as always is fun (he's sort of like a fat Vincent Price). One very good scene: where Buono proposes marriage to the girl at the arcade.

Although it seemed very similar to Psycho and did come after, it holds its own. A creepy serial killer crime movie, with the investigative side sharing screen time.
