Horror is dead!!...isn't ìt? Common prove me I'm wrong. The last good horror movie I saw was "Martyrs"..there are hundrets of those wanna be gory, bloody, thrilling "never seen this before" flicks, but at least the result is a low budget bullshit production like this insignificant crap. i'm tired of this genre. get lost

Almost an hour and a half of crap build up to a terrible pay off. It's flat out one of the most boring films you could possibly see. None of the acting in impressive, the Stepfather is terribly generic and it's full of generic as hell cliche's like cellphones hitting "low battery" as the film nears it's climax. I can't suggest watching this, even if you liked the original or horror in general. Skip it.

The story has nothing special to offer for genre and it's obvious and predictable. The acting was almost accetable. But it was nice to see Sela Ward acting again; haven't seen her for a long time.

Even if you take away the fact that the trailer for this flick totally spills the beans - basically, if you watch the trailer, you've watched the movie - even if that's taken away and the trailer is viral and gives nothing away, the flick is as transparent as it gets. There's no suspense whatsoever, after the first five minutes you can essentially call it right to the finish. Unreliable characters that you can't get behind, predictable eye candy, and an antagonist that just fails. Poor effort.

It makes more sense in this one for the lead character to be suspicious of the stepdad than it does in the original; sadly, this movie's much worse. David is probably one of the most ridiculous killers ever, he makes up lies that are easily disprovable and seems to actively try to be as creepy as possible whenever he gets the chance—what a tedious, annoying movie. Also, Penn Badgley can't act for shit.

An odd remake choice, especially in how it doesn’t learn from the faults of the earlier film – again, removing the ambiguity from the leading character is a ballsy move, but to then do nothing to develop the character means the audience simply sits around waiting for the inevitable to happen. Performances are reasonable for this sort of bargain basement “thriller”, and it’s enjoyable enough in an undemanding way, but skirts too closely to “The Wrong…” series of telemovies.

As a horror buff (thriller?) I loved it. Yes, it is predictable, as are a lot of movies. Yes, it isn't that scary, but I'm rarely scared by films anyways. But The Stepfather is a well acted and constantly entertaining movie. It is suspenseful at times and develops well throughout its runtime, culminating in a fast and fun finale.

What a piece of crap. Terrible Lifetime channel story that somehow got made into a full-length feature. This was dated a year after it came out thanks to the unbelievable number of plot points that rely on cell phone technology malfunctions. The attempt at a scary, circular ending is cringe-worthy.

"paint by numbers" film that I suppose falls into the horror-thriller category, only because at one point a cat jumps out and its makes you jump (thats it for the scares, trust me!). Thats it .. everything else you can predict from the opening 5 minutes. I dont think I have ever been able to plot out an entire film so accurately. Just chock full of cliches, plot holes, mediocrity, and "he's behind you" moments. Why does no-one ever cut their hands when they use a bit of mirror as a dagger? ugh

I'm usually not one to complain about a cookie cutter plot, but this one didn't even attempt to step out of the box. It's fairly well shot and the acting is all fine, but there's just nothing special about it. Also, I'm pretty sure Amber Heard must've had an anti-clothes clause in her contract.

Another forgettable and unneccesary remake of a movie that already stands alone as a guilty pleasure horror classic. Walsh cannot stand up to O'Quinn's performance in the original--skip this.

The original film was no masterpiece, but it had a nice, taut buildup and a compelling performance from Terry Quinn, who played the restrained, brooding psychopath convincingly. Walsh isn't quite as compelling, his spaz-outs are more comical than scary. Also, it was a bit of a stretch to imagine someone being off the grid in 1987, but it's preposterous to imagine a sociopath living with a family for so long without photos/records in 2009.

About what I expected. For once the PSI was way off, saying I would give this film a 25. There were some scary moments, and I actually thought the guy who played The Stepfather did a decent job, even though I'm the biggest John Locke fan in the world.

A predictable thriller, that plays out exactly how you think it will, but the cast manages to somehow make all the cliches seem real. The young actors Penn Badgely and Amber Heard have great chemistry through out which makes there characters seem real. It really shows us what can happen if we put our trust in the run people. Despite all the negative reviews I have read I still found this this film entertaining in for a horror flick. It succeds at doing what it was supposed to do which is thrill

Sure, it's a predictable story-nothing new here. And, some of the acting is suspect. But, the movie is well-shot and stylish (compared to other similar movies in it's genre). I watched the movie on dvd (for a redbox buck) and never got bored throughout. Keep in mind that the same people/reviewers giving "The Stepfather" such dismal ratings also rated "Paranormal Activity" very highly. hmmmmmmm. Forget negative ratings miming the opinions of "professional critics". Stepfather isn't THAT BAD!

Over-obvious suspense film, resurrecting the unctuous psycho from the 1987 original, tips its hand immediately and slows its predictable progress (to a nonsensical new ending) only to ogle the body of the husky-voiced sex doll, Amber Heard.
