Edmund Lowe in the UK working on Edgar Wallace's mystery The Squeaker (1937) and gets paired with Alastair Sim! Weird mix, and this is a decent routine murder story, but nothing more then that.

A not particularly remarkable mystery with the charismatic Edmund Lowe. There is a vague Sherlock vibe, with the whole “man struggling with addiction who works for the police making elaborate theatrical schemes to get criminals” and, well, being british.
