"…there is an idea of a Patrick Star, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there." Patrick eats a shit filled snail litter box in the first ten minutes. Patrick a FREAK. Movie is cute.

This movie is a drug test. If you laughed while watching this, you most certainly are under the influence.

It's a movie for kids and the characters are charming. However, a lot of the gags are recycled from the show. Even the flashbacks were done before. The art style is attractive as a feature film upgrade to the show's animation. The entire desert/wild west section was filler, including Keanu who's just jarring. The secret recipe was friendship all along. Fav scene: what a shock to see Plankton pressed through a grate into pieces.

It is so-so at the writting and charm, but the beautiful animation and colorful visuals makes it a enough good fun for everyone and the fans.

Pretty bad first half right from generic pop music needle drop through to bland set up of the road trip plot. The appearance of Keanu’s head in a tumbleweed kickstarts a funny extended dream sequence but a lot of the other filler in place of story doesn’t connect. The Bikini Bottom gang’s flashback tributes to SpongeBob’s relentless and remarkable friendliness and optimism got the tears gushing though (tortured soul Squidward’s especially, of course), ringing as true as Kelpy G’s dulcet tones.

Much better than the 2015 movie. Still too busy being weird/disgusting but the Spongebob charm is intact.

Movie-hating wife: "They keep doing these dumb flashbacks to camp. Are they trying to sell some new show?" Me, after googling: "Well, shit." Me, reviewing this movie: Well. Shit.

It's the type of story that Spongebob fans will love and eat up. It's funny, charming and stays true to the characters in a way that keeps the film meaningful and advancing the lore of Bikini Bottom. It sets up a prequel series. This is Stephen Hillenburgs baby and it's amazing to see how far he took this character. Thank you Stephen for this magical world.

So, I've enjoyed the other SpongeBob films in the past, and various episodes, so I have been looking forward to seeing this for a while. Turns out a majority of this movie is essentially just a back door pilot/blinding marketing strategy to promote their new show, Camp Koral. The actual plot of the movie was so-so other than that. Just kind of annoying.

An absolute mess of a movie that conveniently ignores almost all of Spongebob's history other than a few lame references. The worst part is that they say the movie is in memory of Hillenburg, but I'm sure he would've never approved this plot.

SpongeBob and Burnin' Bush Keanu Reeves join forced to find a Slimy Gary! How was I not loving this! Actually I adored the entire wild west scene. SpongeBob goes desert rider. The court case ending was a little on the low point, but the rest had me laughing all the way.

Rehashes old jokes and events from previous episodes and movies, but; it is pretty cute and quite fun. Although it is kind of insulting to Hillenburg's memory, he would not have been happy with this.
