This Asian-American drama has got some atmosphere, but that's about it, because the writing and acting is for the most part embarrassing. All white cast as Orientals. This was mostly Helen Hayes' film, but she doesn't nail it. Climax speech at the end was almost cringe worthy from the highly respected actress. Novarro was almost the most believable of the lot, but even he suffers from being a very stereotypical Chinaman, and doesn't really add anything beyond that. Disappointing MGM production.
