How ironic. Its a documentary about social media algorithms, but curated by Netflix's viewership engagement formulas.

Receives points for raising the issue, but there's a slight irony in the fact that this is such a conventionally assembled documentary, that is, one planned according to a formula that is intended to grab attention, "make you think", end with some expressions of "hope" and so on. All a little "algorithmic", in other words. It's a shame it buys into the nonsense about Russia "hacking" the 2016 election, while at the same time, and rather inexplicably, Cambridge Analytica doesn't get a mention.

Didn't really tell me anything new, and of course it prances around the obvious answer to the questions it asks. psssssst, the answer is abolishing capitalism.

Manipulative dramatization, a bit of fearmongering combined with a sleight of hand attempt to place the blame on something as abstract as an algorithm instead of tech companies shareholders and CEOs, and lawmakers. Nevertheless it's worth watching because it is spot on with pointing out the problem of increasing polarization. The solve to all this would be too painful for neoliberals to even mouth so the movie is left without a coherent conclusion.

It was ok until it talked too much on "conspiracy theory"! And no thanks, I don't want NETFLIX tell me what is right and what is the "truth"! And... so algorithm knows about my...? oh fuck!

Badly written, badly researched and badly executed, boring documentary on a very important and interesting subject.

The irony. Message about manipulation by big tech is delivered by crude manipulative techniques.

As far as subject matter, this is absolutely essential viewing. What Tristan Harris and his fellow "reformed" silicon valley-types has to say needs to be heard by everyone. It's a bit of a shame then that the vehicle that presents their message is so anodyne. In trying to make it as accessible as possible, it loses the edge it needs to really punch you awake and make you see the urgency of the problem. Instead it ends up feeling like a mild talking-to followed by a gentle shoulder pinch.

As a software developer I think there is important stuff in this documentary even if it's a little over the top in all the ominous music and dramatisation.

I have never seen a documentary this unfathomably bad before. It manages to be poorly made AND ridiculously irresponsible AND poorly argued. Most bad documentaries only achieve one or two of these things.

It's fine. Not much new here that I didn't already know. And I really didn't like the "end of civilization" escalation at the end of this. But I do agree that social media is a major problem.

One of those "shocker" films. It does a good job in scaring the gullible, but I don't think anyone is going to change their internet habits based on this documentary. Kids will be kids. I for one kinda enjoy falling down YouTube rabbit holes on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Remarkably one-sided with bizarre, manipulative dramatizations. I think the producers need to expand their social circle.

This film takes an interesting look at social media. This movie gets their point of view across quickly but the idea seems a little bit stretched out and the film drags in spots. Overall I would recommend this documentary film.

As compelling and absorbing as a decent current affairs report, this is a fair study of the "sinister" algorithm which will be nothing new to anyone whose considered the subject before; the ridiculously melodramatic dramatisations don't work at all, and feel like a bit of feature length padding. Neatly skips over the true "social" problem: the humans, both in control and in the populace; cops out by suggesting that, as if by magic, it's entirely the abstract algorithm that's the problem!

The frightening reality brought to life. The issues have been well talked about to have it shown in a well-made documentary like this, it really makes you think. The interlacing of the re-enacted scenes blend well with the interviews and makes this a fascinating watch... if nothing else.

A lot of people should probably watch this. I can't rate this highly because there were several factually incorrect statements and occasional logical incoherency which is ironic because the film intends to raise awareness for manipulation tactics

The most positive I can say about this docu is that it's able to convey common ideas about social media addiction, but only superficially. Otherwise, it espouses wild conspiracy theories that social media companies are literally controlling our social lives and can be blamed for all of societies ills, to which I could only respond with "okay, boomer." The truth is, the internet is extremely chaotic and to argue there's only one source of internet influence, as with society in general, is absurd.

Important ideas for people to be aware of but the overall format didn't really work for me. The Black Mirror style scenes felt too shallow to be relatable and the longer interviews took too long to get to the fundamental points. Listen to the excellent Your Undivided Attention podcast instead!

Tech folks speak out on the dangers presented by the design decisions behind social media platforms. Hooray? This documentary could have used (and emphasized) more voices outside the tech sector, but this is aimed squarely at people that have not followed these issues that closely but are wary of tech. This broad approach is underscored by the hokey re-enactment used to illustrate the calculations behind platforms' manipulation of users. Naming the fictional alarm-raiser Cassandra? Really?

the message is essential, good for you (and me) if it was "nothing new", we all still need to hear it. I wish the Jaron guy was the central interviewee, although it's not hard to see why he's in more of a Chewbacca role. The drama part is ironically fun, but the end where AI-Pete from Mad Men goes to AI Heaven is too much.

An "eye-opener", a "must-see" for a rookie to data privacy or related topics. But it is not deepen the understanding of the problem for an above-average user with the one-sided approach adopted by the creators. So, it maybe mislead the target... Also, it is probably made by Netflix's manipulative viewership engagement formulas ^.^

As usual with mainstream documentaries, don't bother if you're vaguely familiar with any of the subject matter as it's pithced at average joe and so ridiculously simplistic. Annoying that it doesn't properly consider that just maybe capitalism has something to do with it until the last 10 minutes.

The goal is good, and the message is well delivered within the first 20mns. However, there's a terrible family drama in the middle of it all, that just does not work well.

The Social Dilemma tüm dünya halkı için önemli bilgiler sunuyor.
