I've seen lots of bad movies, but very few that demonstrate this level of contempt for both their source material and audience. Smurf this movie in the smurf.

Having expected true Rob Schneideresque horror of I was pleasantly surprised. Like waking up naked with someone after a night on the town turning over and fearing to see Clint Howard, but finding Courtney Love. It's not as bad as you'd expected, but still a train wreck. The movie had one or two almost funny moments, but as I got further into the movie I started rooting for Gargamel. It's a kids movie but even kids will find the smurf talk ridiculous. All in all this movie smurfinging smurfs!

Tried to watch this with my niece and couldn't make it past 30 minutes or so. Unnecessary and completely vapid.

This is such a smurfing smurfie. So much smurfed smurf I was smurfing the smurf. I suppose smurf was ok as smurf and some of it was kind of smurfy, but mostly it was smurfily smurfing. Lots of smurfid pop smurfure gas that really fell smurf. At least some smurfs appeared to be smurfare of how smurficulus the smurfepts of smurfs is. SMURF.

I enjoyed the hell out of this and I really didn't expect to. I've never really been a Smurf fan but they were enjoyable. NPH and Jayma Mays do a great job and Hank Azaria hams it up perfectly as Gargamel. Found Azrael funny as well. Even though he's a bad guy I felt sorry for him at times. Like Alvin and the Chipmunks before it, a CGI kids film that I expected to hate has surprised me.

Considering the population of children in the world even the name of The Smurfs could sell. So now that all the cartoons are turning into animation Smurfs has the rights to participate. I don't think there is going to be a problem if we won't see a sequel. And please Sony, don't do any animations again.

Not a complete butchery of its source as is the wont with recent live action/talking CGI remakes of classic material (ie Yogi Bear, Marmaduke, Garfield, Alvin & Chipmunks). My kid enjoyed it and I managed to stay awake (after a big lunch and a couple of pints) so its got that going for it!

This movie didn't need to be made. It's clearly not meant for people who grew up with the show (way too immature), and kids who watch it won't care that it's The Smurfs in place of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Hank Azaria, as he's wont to do, is the only funny thing in this movie. Everyone else, including Harris, is completely flat and unamusing.

The Smurfs is completely childish. But this is not exactly an error, when I used to like smurfs, I was a child. And this is not a movie to please the adults who watched smurfs, is a film aimed at children today, and in that sense, it worked, somehow, even if it is too silly to watch, being an adult. Anyway, something I would highlight is the actor Hank Azaria, pretty good as Gargamel.

THE SMURFS fails to make any solid case for why we should care about the Smurfs, or why they're so popular to begin with. They're cute enough, but in this film, none of them have much personality to speak of; Jonathan Winters' avuncular Papa Smurf comes off best, which isn't saying much. Neil Patrick Harris, as a harried ad-man whose life the Smurfs invade, is clearly embarrassed by his being there; Hank Azaria's Gargamel, however, is goofily amusing. But the script is poor and the CGI uneven.

maybe only kids under 6 will care for that movie. They'll laugh at the character falling over though, not at the jokes themselves. Otherwise, nothing is enjoyable about this mess. The smurf comics were always a bit childish but they had way more going on that goofy idioties, there was some underlying comments on small communities. At any rate, there was always a touch of cynicism in the plots, and seeing it missing here means they took the design and name and nothing of the substance.

The Smurfs is a boring film with a conventional screenplay, atrocious CGI, painful musical cues and bad acting. Azaria is at least mildly entertaining. At least it's completely forgettable.

Passably enjoyable (and surprisingly painless) adaptation starts with the distinction of a *big* belly laugh from the bizarro CGI laughing cat; outside of this, the film proceeds more or less as you would expect from a film pitched to a younger crowd. Azaria fares best of the human characters, though his fixation on Smurfette feels a little... smurfy for a kid's film. The vocal performers do nothing to distinguish themselves, bar Winters whose Pappa Smurf is a warm and distinctive figure.

I might have been ok with this movie had it just been set in Smurf-ville or wherever the cartoon took place. Why do we insist on introducing these characters to the modern world, why do we need a live action cast? Make the jokes slightly dirty (lots of innuendo), keep it stupid and fun, and don't overthink it. I would rather marathon the entire animated Smurfs series than watch the movie again, and the film, though bad, wasn't really THAT bad.

I guess Sony has learned nothing from Pixar or Dreamworks. This is one of those kids only movies that's so bad, you want to rip out your eyeballs if you have to sit through it in the cinema.

Has some decent moments, but even for me (or especially for me), being Belgian, this didn't work. First of all, certain things just didn't seem right, tsarting with they way they look. Just didn't do it for me. Second of all, the story, which is just not smurfish enough. Smurfs in the Big Apple? Please.. Next: Azrael.. Actually, now I'm writing this I find it quite hard to come up with some decent elements. To list one: I liked Gargamel. Azaria did a great job portraying Gargamel. Compliments fo

Hank Azaria is (contextually) surprisingly funny and saves this film, which is more or less a nightmare whenever the Smurfs are on screen and a pretty enjoyable comedy whenever Gargamel is. Unfortunately, it becomes a bit of a Tom & Jerry situation, wherein you root for the villain (because the good guy is an asshole or in the Smurfs' case incredibly annoying) who inevitably fails every damn time.

It was fun to see the Smurfs in action but it really didn't bring the full charm that they had when I was growing up. They did sneak in some funny jokes especially with Gutsy Smurf making a Braveheart joke (since he wears a kilt and all).
Hank Azaria was great as Gargamel, although I feel like he looked a bit too skinny to be Gargamel.
I'm not sure if this movie will make today's children fall in love with the Smurfs nor rekindle the love of the grown up children who watched it. It's just ok.

While it wasn't quite as bad as most people made it sound, The Smurfs will be better for kids and kids only. For others, it's better off elsewhere. Even with these talented voice actors, it still fails as a whole.

Let's explore how The Smurfs react to our world! With modern technology and ! We can get some good jokes in about that. Yeah this is how we can get a new audience to connect with these characters. It ticks all the boxes of brand recognition, nostalgia and modern audience appeal to sell theatre tickets and poor merchandise.
Ignoring the inconsistent characters and abandoned plot lines, this was a a bad film. With them taken into consideration, it was a terrible film.

I was a big fan of the Schtroumpfs but never liked the latter translation with Smurfs. The oldie Smurfs animation was much better - now - after seeing the 3D Smurfs and I never really liked it either! This was a cheap kid version of nice comics story. Hank Azaria is a nice actor and voice for animations, but here they put him down as well. Shame on you! I kissed the Smurf and I liked it was only good joke. Thanks Katy. And I did not like constant The Lord of the Rings connections in the story.

I was turned off by the reviews and feedback, and almost convinced my kids not to go, but as they'd stayed off TV 5 days, had to concede to their wishes. Turns out they had a BLAST, almost needed to take them to the doc for stitches they laughed so hard. Wife and I also liked the references to the comics, as I have a few Peyo books and a collection of Spirou. Azaria is great too. Hey, brainless fun is sometimes just that! If you're looking for deep meaning in Smurf/Schtroumpfs, you're insane...
