“The Sky is Everywhere” is a visually creative but emotionally lacking portrayal of coping with loss. While the lead performance and technical aspects are strong, the film’s contrived plot and style undermine its impact.

I liked some aspects of this film but for the most part, I didn't feel too emotionally invested in the characters, it has to be said. I like the music playing during the film and the fact its quite imaginative - it has a daydreamy feel to it, a bit like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. However, I just didn't feel at all connected to the overall story arc, unfortunately. Its a fairly easily forgettable film but its not entirely bad either.

Kaufman gives a captivating performance in the lead role, but some of her co-stars struggle to keep up. The film has plenty of beautiful moments, but fall flat in others. You get the picture, it has its ups and downs.

Tone-deaf. Abysmal dialog. Visually, it's not bad, but the direction is incredibly disjointed from the subject. A lot of creative risks were taken, which is admirable, but they simply don't work. Everyone is on a different page.

Excellent usage of colours inside and outside of the house. A playful style. Focuses a lot on trees, flowers, etc. Really beautiful landscapes/photography. Gives it a general brightness and whimsy. Decker told a more compelling story about grief/living life again visually than narratively since the wonder of the visuals surrounds the grief of the character. Script tries too hard, not allowed to breathe, and is at its best when it gives itself to more grounded emotions/writing.
