Doris Weston wasn't such a good replacement for Ruby Keeler after all. Weston, making her movie debut as Dick Powell co-star. Sure, she could sing and all, but her screen presence was blander than intended. She only lasted a couple of years in Hollywood before disappearing. Powell could almost carry it on his own, but even he was lacking the magic of a fitting screen partner in The Singing Marine (1937). The most horrific "highlight" was seeing Hugh Herbert's "sister". Oh, my!
