I was not mentally ready for a montage of blackface performances, or for a truck to splutter mud on the protagonist and his buddies so they suddenly appear in blackface. To say this aged badly would be a massive understatement, holy shit

The main event is two of the most dynamic performers of their time squaring off - Al Jolson vs Cab Calloway! With the Busby Berkeley input The Singing Kid is purely a 'show & joke' type of affair. Jolson got a superb team surrounding him creating a heavyweight musical. Fun and past paced, but not much done to engage the story. The tone of humor also felt a bit off. There is plenty of laugh at, but a lot of it feel phony. That way the human element is lost, but it's still a big show going on!
