Speedy and sharp melodrama. The cinematography caught me off guard, it looks so good. It's got a few exposition dumps that slow things down but mostly it's a strong, surprisingly bleak film that I'm surprised isn't more well known. Also, holy shit that poster.

I really was not expecting this to be as good as it is. The transitions are terrific. They work as a meta-commentary on the film - clocks melting away, faces in fire, etc. It's a very lively little film, and Zita Johann is just fantastic - there's a prison scene in which she's so heartbreaking vulnerable I had flashbacks to Falconetti. Just a fine film all around.

I was hoping for less sugar and more cocoa. Nonetheless, it has a couple of very memorable visual bits. Plus, i really did love that dress (now who`s a sucker?)

Didn't expect this. The Sin of Nora Moran was told in such a different way then what was normal at that time. Flashbacks, imaginary talks and different point of views. Very normal today, but I would say this movie is a minor revolution at that time in Hollywood. And with the enigmatic Zita Johann in the lead only strengthen this movies status. Zita's most famous role is in The Mummy (1932) opposite Boris Karloff. And as Nora Moran she probable tops that performance.

Very, very good flick. Zita Johann is marvelously affecting as the self-sacrificing lead, and Clare Du Brey is just right as the self-righteous, parsimonious widow. Imaginative story-telling techniques, and some beautifully effective shadows and image super-impositions that foreshadow techniques made famous by Orson Welles in "Citizen Kane".

The story is decent, and the story structure is interesting, but the acting is pretty bad. Altogether this was an entertaining little romp even if it's a bit melodramatic.
