The first half is fantastic, retaining all the elements of early episodes The Simpsons that make them so captivating with numerous references and jabs towards aspects of American society and genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. However somewhere the magic is suddenly lost and by three-quarters of the way in it prvoides a much more mediocre experience. It's almost like watching a self-parody of the show's decline throughout its numerous televised series. Still, it deserves a good score.

I don't know exactly what people expected when they went to see this. Some people complained that it was "just a long episode of the Simpsons." Well, the episodes always have beginning and ending plot points, so what's the big fuss? Even if that were the case, I thought the film touched on character subjects the series hasn't. You might actually question whether or not Marge is still willing to put up with Homer after all these years, or if Bart really is such a badass.

Pretty good and a lot better than I was expecting, considering how mediocre the latest seasons of The Simpsons have been. It doesn't really tread new ground, except for a couple of gags which obviously couldn't be done on network TV, and plays out like a long Simpsons episode but that's OK. If you're a fan of The Simpsons give this a watch. If you used to be a fan of The Simpsons but gave up on the past few seasons then this is still worth seeing.

Thanks to Tyler, I've got used to the Simpsons from the TV series so I was ready for the quirky, sometimes-lame, sometimes-intelligent humor. While I didn't think it was an amazing movie, I thought it was entertaining and held lots of good elements, some romance, some suspense, some action--lots of humor of course. I'm not sure that it would appeal to people who weren't already "into" "The Simpsons" but fans should enjoy it.

It delivers just as advertised: a 90 minute Simpsons episode. Problem is, The Simpsons hasn't been relevant in nearly 10 years. The dependence on pop culture jokes (due to competition with Family Guy, I'd assume) will date this movie very quickly.

I laughed and I'll admit to that. But sometimes it was a hollow laughter, with the feeling that I was watching an attempt to cash in on a once-great institution. Some bits, which stink of Ian Maxtone-Graham, fall flat on their face. And the dramatic moments almost try too hard, maybe to make this feel like more of a movie. It does. But I wish it were a better movie.

The Simpsons Movie seems to match my idea of what it was destined to be: a compilation of all of the greatest minds behind the franchise who have been saving all of their good stuff for this film, rather than to have used it at all in the many unremarkable previous seasons of the show. Overall, the movie wasn't the best the Simpsons have offered up, but it did have me laughing hysterically more often than not. Pretty good!

Ok, it's not as incisive or side-splittingly hilarious as the series in its prime. But it is very funny and irreverent, with enough subtle touches to keep the hardcore fans happy and enough heart to keep the casual viewer interested. The film is very much focused on the family itself, which I think was a good decision though I wish they had incorporated more of the supporting characters (e.g. Apu, Mr. Burns, etc.)

I'm going to start by saying that The Simpsons is not a tv show that I would ever choose to watch, because it's not really my sort of humor; so, it's not surprising that I was just pretty bored in about the first half. However, the jokes started to become more my taste after that point, and I sometimes couldn't help but laugh out loud. That was the point when I started actually enjoying it and was glad I gave it a chance. Wouldn't pick it again, but it wasn't a total waste of time.

I should start by saying that I loooooooooooove the Simpsons. I even think the new ones are a tad underrated. Having said that, the writers and creators really need to realize that the show's strengths are its developed characters: its Springfield-ians. Too many times I sit down to watch an episode that is written entirely to promote a celebrity voice actor.
So, with that foundation in mind, how do you make an underwhelming Simpsons movie? You take the Simpsons out of Springfield.

By the time this movie came out I wasn't as big of a Simpsons fan as when I was a kid. I still thought they did a pretty good job both capturing the spirit of the Simpsons while still making the scope a little more grand and being a little more racy to fit what they could do on the big screen. It's too bad they didn't end the series with this movie, as it has been going on too long anyway and it could have been rewritten as a fitting end.

Gotta say I'm really in it for the laughs, and although the first part of the movie was as funny as some of the better episodes of the show, they soon begin sacrificing humor for pizzazz. Looks like they really tried to match the expectations of the summer blockbuster audience with lots of cheap thrills which I myself find neither funny nor exciting. And, while the Simpsons writers are witty as hell, they're also endless fountains of corny morals and crowd-pleasing middle-of-the-road politics.

As bad as I feared it would be. I foolishly deluded myself into believing the reason the series has been so god-awful since the turn of the century was that Groening and co. were investing the bulk of their talents into this film. How unfortunate that this was not the case. What was perhaps the best 30-minute show on American television has been bled dry many times over and reduced to a sad caricature of itself, and the Simpsons Movie is a primary example of this.

It's a 90-minute Simpsons episode that they worked hard on writing, producing, and performing to its peak. Plenty of laughs ("I like men now!") and enjoyable references to the show's glory days; even manages to be a little touching in spots. Still, it doesn't have quite the same satirical bite and incredibly memorable music as the South Park film.

I liked it. As many have noted, it is essentially an extra long episode of the TV show, but I did think it expanded on a few character notes from the series (Homer's selfishness, for one) and it was nice to see a longer story arc. It hits all the classic notes of the show - the one-liners, the often random sight gags, and the biting social commentary, so if you're a fan of the show, you'll probably like it, but it definitely doesn't hit any ground-breaking material beyond that.

Some very funny moments, but it was released ten years too late when the show was in creative freefall, so the writing isn't as witty or sharp as it was in its prime years. The blockbuster style scale though generally works, even if the plot doesn't hang together quite as well as the South Park or Beavis and Butthead films, and while it doesn't push the envelope, it provides just enough entertainment for fans of the series. No more, no less.

Easy to see why this was popular. It just doesn't cut it for someone that liked the show at its peak for the specific reasons that it was so good, namely the blend of writers at the top of their game making uncompromising and subversive television. One check of the commentary shows this was focus-grouped to hell and back. Even here, it's a corpse. Funnier and more substantial than season 18, sure, what isn't?

The Simpsons depends on its familiar interplay with existing characters, and of course the town itself. This, typically for a movie, attempted to broaden its horizons and lost that vital familiarity. It was amusing, sometimes downright funny, but by the end of it you probably think, why did I bother to spend 90 minutes doing what I could have done, getting what I would get, from a single 30 minute episode.

There are legitimately funny bits, but without any comedic timing. There is so much jam packed into the movie that nothing seems important whatsoever. It has the worst pacing of any movie I have ever seen. Problems are introduced and forgotten or overcome at a breakneck speed. They went for quantity over quality, and it pales in comparison to the animated shows which were born from it. They tried to one up themselves here and ended up with an avalanche of disconnected and poorly timed jokes.

If nothing else, it's the best possible version of a latter day Simpsons episode, which is praising it with faint damnation. The tone is all over the place, the plot is nowhere near the most interesting the show has ever had (why didn't they just bring Hank Scorpio back to take over the world with Homer bumbling in to stop him?) and it's barely the length of a feature film, but it's densely packed with terrific jokes and holds up surprisingly well to rewatches.

I love The Simpsons. This movie is awful. The show fell off a cliff around the turn of the century. It was never going to be possible to maintain the meteoric, groundbreaking high of the early seasons, but why must the writers mimic the mimickers with the need for every line of dialogue to hit with a cheap laugh? The Simpsons used to be poignant on top of hilarious. It's just a PG Family Guy now, kowtowing to something worse than the lowest common denominator: those both dim and easily offended.
