This is an imaginative plot, yet one with which the viewer can readily identify. A bank teller is held up at gun point in his bank. Luckily for him he receives a clue that this is going to occur and diverts most of the cash into his own safety deposit box, leaving only a nominal amount for the crook. The ruse works well, but for the fact that the crook resents the fact that he has been outsmarted...

Neat thriller with a clever script by Curtis Hanson that keeps you in suspense. Gould is his laid-back self as the seemingly colorless bank teller and both York & Lomez make good use of their smaller roles. The real revelation here was Plummer as I've never seen him this menacing before. There are some pretty nasty scenes that I thought were needed to remind us about the stakes. Plus points for early John Candy apperance and Christmas setting during the first part of the film.

70's Gould is the guy I'd want to hang around with. Yeah you'd probably get beat up or killed, but you'd do it with class. The Silent Partner is a great concept done in a tight manner with two fantastic leads. Plummer is absolutely terrifying.

Solid entertainment. Pretty straightforward concept of a bank robber taken for a ride by an opportunistic bank teller, who suspected it would happen all along. It's not exactly cutting edge (unlike well made fish tanks), but it never ceases to be an entertaining thriller.

Well, I'll certainly never look at a fish tank the same way again.

An almost great film. The scenes between Gould and Plummer are magic. They were tense and frightening. But then Plummer goes to jail nearly an hour into the film, and we are introduced to a new woman. While it is still interesting, I just wanted to see Gould and Plummer again! But, this does a good job at creating such a morally gray ambiguity of Gould's character. Why, he's not so different from Plummer after all!

A unique and well plotted crime thriller that is also something of a hidden gem. Even though I've seen a number of Gould movies in the past, I hadn't ever heard of this one, which is kind of a shame because it was a pretty good movie. Also, Plummer made a hell of a deranged criminal here, likely one of the most memorable, nastiest of the 70s.

The Silent Partner does a great job reinforcing why I like Elliot Gould so much. Here he comes off very relatable yet debonair. Gould along with Plummer are simply outstanding. The screenplay is incredibly smart and clever, yet easily approachable. Writers Hanson and Bodelsen, along with director Daryl Duke hold absolutely nothing back. There are one or two moments where things maybe slow down a little bit too much, but overall this is a decidedly fun and enjoyable cat and mouse thriller.

It's a decent movie but the advertising is just overblown. Not much comedy. I wouldn't say the plot is about a beautiful girl trapped between two lovers. There's definitely a decent amount of toplessness and Christopher Plummer makes a scary villain. Women throwing themselves at unibrow Gould. York was so mean. Were '70s Canadian mall banks such an important epicenter of commerce? Fav scene: Gould bars the door but Plummer opens the mail slot and taunts him---terrifying.

Often overlooked and highly underappreciated 70's crime thriller.

Old fashioned and Hitchcock-inspired (down to very macabre aspects of the plot), with 70s sensibility twist. Plummer and York are extra juicy here.

There's maybe 10 minutes worth of film that should be removed to make this move quicker, just trim out the sex scenes and it'd be fantastic

Enjoyable heist thriller that keeps you guessing. Once Elliot Gould gets on TV, the girls start throwing themselves at him. Don't you love the seventies?

Canadian cinema at its best. Does not pull any punches or pretend to be anything other than it is. Convincing performances all around.

Excellent suspense film, featuring Elliott Gould the cool brain vs. Christopher Plummer the hot brawn. Even more fun today now that we're used to seeing Plummer in grandpa roles

There's a lot to like in this heist film, including Gould's blasé approach to robbing banks and Plummer's terrifying bad guy. There are moments of humor (best: the telephone booth switch) and a few sultry scenes. Admittedly, it's totally improbable with the average guy outsmarting the streetwise person, not to mention all those disguises at hand. It also comes to a complete stop in the middle before finally getting back on track. Fans of the genre should hunt this one down.

Where has this movie been all my life and why doesn't it get more attention? The plot is very clever and smart, kind of a noiry cat and mouse deconstructed heist movie, but not in any way you've seen before. A bunch of memorable details round it out, and the performances are all good. John Candy is even in it in a bit part. It's a shame Celine Lomez didn't have more of a career. This was pretty much the only significant thing she was in and she is quite good and lovely to boot. Great stuff.

BlurayRip RARBG.

Really awesome, one of the best 70's thrillers I've seen. Elliot Gould and Christopher Plummer are both great and the plotting is sharp. If you secretly wish you lived in the 70's your appreciation will of this movie will be even higher.

Christopher Plummer makes a really ugly woman. Not relevant to the plot but...wow, that's a really ugly woman. The ending was ruined when I couldn't stop laughing.
