The Sicilian Clan

Fantastic French gangster-movie with 3 excellent topactors (see photo). Incredible good story, slowly movie but no problem for me. Gorgious music of Ennio Morricone makes it all super. 1 word in French : Magnifique !

Estreava há 50 anos na França. É muito estranho ver o ícone francês por excelência, Jean Gabin, interpretando um poderoso chefão siciliano, não menos estranho é que ele está excelente, falando italiano e tudo. Verneuil na época em que filmava era considerado comercial e irrelevante em relação à nata do cinema francês, mas de uma perspectiva histórica um filme como Os Sicilianos é hoje um clássico que não deve nada em know-how cinematográfico aos cineastas-fetiche da época.

Very entertaining, but nothing more.

When three giants of French cinema (Jean Gabin, Alain Delon, Lino Ventura) are united with a great director (Henri Verneuil), that gives a classic. To note also the excellent music by Ennio Morricone.

Starts off with a pretty cool escape scene and builds to an even cooler heist sequence. Lacks the depth and nuance, however, of the genre's most renowned titles, which is particularly disappointing considering the involvement of acting powerhouses like Delon, Gabin and Ventura. But it's still an enjoyable watch and Ennio Morricone's recurring theme is one of the most beautiful things ever composed. On a personal note, it was also cool to see my dad as an extra in this film.

A perfect crime where the youngest guy screws everything up. Nice story, good scenes, big actors, a director and a legendary music maker.

There must be hundreds of crime caper police pursuit movies, and I've seen quite a few of them, and it would surprise me if there ever was a better one than this. It is more akin to Melville's late 60s works than to his or Dassin's Le Breton adaptations. Truly tense and full of unexpected but wholly logical plot twists, The Sicilian Clan also boasts great directing, a trinity of timelessly magnificent lead actors, and one of Ennio Morricone's most hauntingly beautiful musical scores.

Really good and stylish little film. Well paced and fun with lots of good performances and a great soundtrack.
