The Ship That Died of Shame

Enjoyable thriller is hampered by a decidedly bland leading performance from Baker, but Attenborough is brilliant as his gradually slimier and slimier co-hort, and Lee is a hoot as an overly officious customs official. Director Dearden handles the at times conflicting tone of his material very well, knowing when to both play for laughs, and when to baton down the hatches and take the tale in a darkly sinister direction. A samll gem, but a tragically overlooked one.
