The Secret of Roan Inish

Feels almost like a folk tale come to life. It's really hard to pin down in exact words what made me like this movie so much. I can't seem to credit one thing specifically, but it just sets a really nice mood.

A very sweet, well shot children's tale. Sayles never ceases to impress me with his ability to express great depth in all aspects of his storytelling.

A simple tale of a girl getting in touch with her familial & cultural roots. It's rare that a setting is so perfectly realized. Sayles handles the Irish myths littered throughout with both an authenticity & imagination in a way I won't soon forget. Feels like the [sane] precursor to Tideland.

John Sayles, the master storyteller, does what he does best and realizes a start landscape and fairytale-like tales. Quaint.

O mistério da ilha estreava há 30 anos no Festival de Toronto. Sayles beeem inusual que adapta um livro infantil da Rosalie Fry que já estou aqui pra ler. Gosto muito da comparação com Michael Powell, Flaherty e Ford. YTS.

Watched this movie a lot when I was a kid. Haven't seen it since, but I do remember it wasn't that great

A comedy for the whole family. Please don't tell me it's otherwise.

I had no idea before seeing this film that it was possible to overdose on Irishness, but here we are. This movie is like grinding the entire country of Ireland to a syringe-sized powder and then shooting the whole thing straight into a vein. So... Fucking... Irish!

This might have been a lot better if the child lead had had some actual acting talent.

A cute kids movie.
