Michael J. Fox is good in the lead role of this film. The script however needs more work. Most of the characters act irrationally and their motivations don't make sense. Overall this film is disappointing.

Predictable at times, but charming nonetheless. Remember the 80s? if not, watch this...and Wall Street.

Objectively, it is not the best movie nor the most original. But subjectively, it is so much like the stereotypical late '80s "big business and New York city" comedies, with a side of "cool trickster teen comedies" and of "liar kid lies too much" comedy. It is almost an accidental anthology. Even the opening shots of the weird parts of town are textbook. And anthologies are hard to fully hate at 100% because they play hard on nostalgia and references.

The Secret of My Success is a fairly good movie that isn't offensive but it isn't really that great. The story of a midwestern farm boy who moves to the big city is cliched. It does turn up the excitement a bit by offering a somewhat incestuous story of a young man who ends up banging his (step)aunt which, for the 80's, is like watching torture porn or those videos of Chinese woman stepping on small animals. I couldn't quite put my finger on the genre because the comedy is sparse.

Weirdly innocent and uncynical.

Is "indeliberate satire" a genre? I mean a) this is hilariously dated and over the top corny and b) nepotism, incest, espionage, fraud and backstabbing really ARE the secret to most people's success.

The movie is based on a ridiculous premise. But the director has carried off this ridiculous story reasonably well till the last 10 minutes when it becomes even more ridiculous. It's almost as if they ran out of time & tried to end the movie abruptly.

Michael J. Fox has enough charm to keep the viewer interested in the success of his scheme, but just barely.

This exciting caper flick mixes elements of Ferris Bueller, Working Girl and Back To The Future. Fox plays himself and the script offers up plenty of fun surprises and precarious escapades. Who doesn't like situations where a character has to change his clothes in an elevator every 5 minutes to play different identities? Another quality 80s family film which can sit on a par with John Hughes's best efforts of that decade. The only downer is the awful tacked-on deus ex machina ending.

I've watched this movie many times. Even though the premise and plot are a little out-there, Helen Slater makes up for it. She is a total babe. I'd give her all my logistics plans any time she wanted them. And what guy hasn't secretly wished he had an Aunt Vera?
