The Second Woman

Is it gaslighting? Is it psychological trauma? Is it something else? Who cares. It isn't really awful, just lifeless. There's an interesting premise and there are glimpses of the mysterious atmosphere it's trying to create, but most of the time it's just a plodding mess with boring leads.

Psychological thriller along the lines of Rebecca (among other Hitchcock films... the tagline even tries to ride the coattails of Spellbound) but very dull. It just seems to plod on and on without ever igniting a spark. The main problem is the excruciatingly bland characterizations by Young and Drake, who have zero chemistry together. The cinematography is decent, but only one shot really stood out. Kudos for not going with the most obvious resolution to the mystery, but getting there is a bore.

Pretty good psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.
