The Seafarers

I found it difficult to sit through a 28-minutes piece of propaganda on a subject I don't care about in the slightest. I only got through it by repeating to myself, "Kubrick made this... Kubrick made this..." As I watched, I did my best to spot anything "Kubrick" about it. It was well shot, kind of. The subjects were always in frame and there were a couple competent tracking shots. But the truth is there's just no reason to watch this other than to be able to say "I've seen every Kubrick film."

You know you're a fanboy when you watch this shit. A relic of the wonderfully naive golden years. No wonder Kubrick was so desperate to get the hell out. Can't see that in this bland documentary though, and the subject matter is even more wholly irrelevant now than the director's skill at this point. RIP unions. And on that note, RIP Kubrick. Skip this and read a Wikipedia page desperately rationalizing how The Seafarers is "still Kubrickian" or something.

No, not the "best" institutional propaganda ever made just because it was directed by Kubrick.
