It's weird seeing younger Rock in movies from this time, he's like half the size of the helicopter loving psycho Rock of today. You'd think the Rock in this movie was dying of something standing next to the 2020s model. It's a fine fluff whatever movie, it's too bad it looks like an episode of Xena with a tad higher budget. I last saw this in theaters when it came out and the embarrassment of walking out to the end credits song came rushing back like a disgusting wave. I staaaaand allllloooone

This is probably the 2nd best entry in The Mummy franchise. That's probably because it's the ultimate cheese fest. The Rock is so fun, and easily carries this film with his natural charisma. This embraces the best parts of Sommer's era of Mummy films with just being a fun, over the top, action flick. There isn't much in the way of a well though story, or anyone that memorable outside of The Rock, but it does just fine being what it is. I wish The Rock would've returned for the sequels.

Basically this just wants to be a Conan movie. At times the overwhelming silliness of the film works in its favour and makes for a pretty amusing scene. Usually though, it's just too much and elicits only groans.

I have to say I like Dwayne Johnson ... he is no Brando, but very likeable, and as a sunday afternoon popcorn movie, this is half decent fun ... a film you can miss large parts out of and not miss anything important.... at least I dont think I missed anything important whilst I made copious cups of tea, and put up the odd shelf or two.

A guilty pleasure of mine. I can, and have, watched this over and over again with no level of boredom. I find a lot of entertainment in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's performance, and find it to be admired. A wrestler turned actor - and a pretty good one at that!

I quite like The Rock, and Kelly Hu is gorgeous. But this... this is simply inexcusable. The script is painfully clunky and the action is so over-the-top absurd. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't even deliver in a 'so bad it's good' way. It's just bad. Ridiculous, and bad. The Rock's two minute cameo role as the villain in The Mummy Returns couldn't be stretched into a full-length film where he's the hero? Who would have thunk. ...why did this get made?

Honestly, it should've been cheesier. It really wants to be a fun, goofy, light-hearted '80s sword-and-sorcery movie (specifically, Conan the Destroyer), but it's pulled between that and an '00s gritty-punchy-man-fight, which keeps it from being nearly as fun as it could be.

A crappy spin-off to a good movie, "The Scorpion King" is only notable for two things, firstly, because it's the movie that introduced to The Rock as a starring actor, and secondly it's a spin off to a series that produced more sequels than the series it spun off from. Not many of the sequels are really worth watching, but most of them are actually better than this, believe it or not.

Starts out well, with a lively sense of humour courtesy of The Rock and Heslov's buddy double-act, but devolves a little too much into empty spectacle as it goes on, becoming overlong and mechanical in the final third; for a 90 minute movie, this drags too much too often. Largely saved by a generally fine cast, with Rees and White always welcome presences, and Russell's deft handling of the early stages.

Better than the Mummy Returns which is where this movie finds its origins. Its a prequel of sorts, but one that doesn't make a lot of sense in a lot of ways. For one it uses a lot of Greek and Biblical references for a movie connected to Egyptian mythology. It's a fun movie that doesn't take itself seriously or try to pretend it is realistic. If you're in the mood for something serious, this isn't for you, but for a fun action/adventure it's an okay choice.

The film opens with a spectacular sequence that finds Mathayus (Dwayne Johnson) rescuing his brother from impending death. The film quickly shifts gears, and we're soon introduced to Memnon (Steven Brand), an evil emperor bent on world domination. Mathayus has no quarrel with Memnon - as a bounty hunter of sorts, he only hates who he's paid to hate. But Memnon raises Mathayus' ire when he murders someone close to him, so the rest of the film entails Mathayus' quest to kill Memnon.

I loved The Mummy. It had action, comedy, and it was just a lot of fun. The Scorpion King, on the other hand, really doesn't have any of what The Mummy had in spades.
The story was really just a carbon copy of The Mummy's story. A guy and a girl try to beat the antagonist, who is, by all accounts, too powerful to beat. There is even an annoying side-kick; in The Mummy he dies in the end, but here he is a lovable rapscallion.
The action scenes and jokes fell pretty flat. The movie was pla

Better than the second Mummy film that spawned it. This is very much an update of the old swords'n'sandals adventures of old, with the same slightly camp humour and ridiculous action set pieces. Sadly the film starts to take itself seriously towards the end and loses its sense of fun.

The Scorpion King is a summer action movie starring The Rock. He's always the center of attention here, and gets all of the important scenes and set pieces. It's kind of fun watching him, and the movie as a whole is enjoyable. It's never boring, and the winking it does at the audience is quite funny. Sure, it's not terribly inventive, nor is it really good, but if you're in the right mindset, it can be kind of fun. And that's about where my expectations were set, so I didn't have a bad time.

Why I thought a spin off from The Mummy series had any hope of being good, I will never know. That being said, I like Dwayne Johnson. The Rock was one of my favourite WWF wrestlers when I was a kid and I think his acting elsewhere can be pretty decent. So I'll give it a 15 for the sake of The Rock. Also the girl was kind of hot. The sand looked pretty, too. Oh and "Memnon" is a really fun name to say.

Mistakes - 1) The handlers place four snakes in the pots without putting the lids back on. Then Memnon steps forward and covers the two empty pots - suddenly the snake pots are covered. 2) After the fight scene between Mathyus and Balthazar and the tribe celebrating, you see Jesup arm wrestling a woman. In the first shot he is wrestling with his left arm and in the next shot he is wrestling with his right arm and loses.
