Surprisingly warm, funny, and insightful coming-of-age comedy. Effectively captures the best parts of childhood - or at least what we'd like childhood to be.

I love nostalgic 50s/60s childhood films - other than the polio, racism and It, it was a pretty good time to be alive.

If the kids from Stand by Me and The Goonies got together and formed a baseball team, you'd get The Sandlot. Which, of course, means it's fun and nostalgia-inducing as hell.

This 90's cult classic is nostalgia crack for children. Eventually becoming a touchstone for a generation of kids, this film takes the coming of age nostalgic period piece like seen in "Dazed and Confused"(1993) and mixes it with the style and feel of something like "A Christmas Story"(1983). All that, plus throw in a feel good sports element, and you get a comedy that's fun for the whole family.

Is it mostly nostalgia? Sure. Do I care? Absolutely not. It's still a pretty well made little comedy, and the wonderful memories that I have of it give it a boost. Might be the most quoted movie of my generation.

This is not a lie at all. This movie is a childhood favorite, and now that I'm all grown up, it's still a favorite. Does any other movie portray the awkwardness of growing up in a new neighborhood so well? I didn't think so. And as a baseball fan, it only helps that the movie focuses on it. Everyone should watch this, if only to hear Smalls say, "Don't be a goofus!"

It's not a total kid dump: it does capture some of the random fun of being a kid pretty well and the gang's attempts at retrieving their ball from the giant dog are fun. But the terrible child actors and the ever present, overly-sentimental tone are giant and constant burdens and too much to overcome.

Gentle, charming, nostalgia-fueled remembrance is arguably too aimless at times, with a lack of driving conflict both a blessing and a curse; it's a laid back mosey through an "unforgettable" summer, but the lack of urgency allows Evans to be reflective on the child mindset, and the real but exaggerated fears and worries (personified in the "beast"). A sanitised and more upbeat spin on STAND BY ME, with a wonderful cast of kid actors bringing a real verisimilitude to the film.

As far as coming of age movies go, this one is about as perfect as it gets. With authentic & likeable characters, a great setting & a simple yet effective premise, there's very little not to love about it from beginning to end. Great performances by a talented young cast, as well as an ending that's both bittersweet and heartwarming are the cherries on top. Overall, it's a super fun and memorable ride that's a must-watch & will always remain a '90's classic.

Not as bad as I feared. There's not much juvenile humour (though what is there is terrible), the annoying characters get minimal screentime and the "kids playing baseball" stuff is decent. But too much of the film was a corny coming of age in the first half and drawn out misadventures in the second, and neither of those are things I enjoy. I was particularly annoyed that this was set in the 50s/60s, hearkening back to a nonexistent idyllic past which contrasts badly with a few key moments.

This movie is killing me (with laughter) Smalls! What a fun movie from my youth. I am not really a fan of baseball. I never played it when I was younger and I don't really watch it (except for some College World Series games). I do enjoy a good baseball movie though. This one is one of my favorites because the kids are all such a good group of friends. The jokes are funny and it is just generally such a fun time that I could watch it FOR.... EV..... ER!...

A film the whole family can enjoy together. For this group of young boys, playing baseball was the reason for waking up in the morning & you played until you lost the ball. The one thing that could really ruin your fun is confronting the monster behind the outfield fence.

Every time someone with bad taste in movies talks to me, it always comes to this. I get asked why I don't like "fun" movies, or how I can be so boring. And then they ask if I like "The Sandlot". I tell them that it's ok, and a fun movie, but that their nostalgia has tainted things forever. And that usually settles things.
