The Sand Castle

A boy spends a day at the beach building a sand castle while observing his fellow beachgoers. He then falls asleep and dreams of them inhabiting the castle. A children's film drawing on Jungian theory is certainly a curiosity item, and there are some lovely moments; the dream sequence (animated and in color, unlike the rest of the film) in particular is quite memorable. But the themes are underdeveloped, the characters are ciphers, and in the end, it doesn't add up to much of anything. So it is.
