The Rookie Cop

The Rookie Cop (1939) Tim Holt starring alongside Ace the Wonder Dog for a crime fighting streak. Really B-picture action. Some of it amusing, but most of it not that refined to make much of an impression. It was clear they were pushing Ace as if he was the new Rin Tin-Tin with a lot of tricks to appeal to the animal lovers, taking almost a bigger spotlight than Holt himself. Worked better than most dog movies, but with nothing to make it more than a quick time filler.
