A giant hunk of cult classic shit. And yes, I've seen the "real" thing - I went to a balls-to-the-wall big screen showing of it in New York City, people quoting lines, costumed actors, throwing shit and I don't know what the fuck. Then I went home and shot myself.

I dunno. I just don't know. This was something else. It's so different, and so campy, that I would categorize it as a "love it/hate it-movie", except I definitely didn't love it and I found it too likeable to hate. Points to Curry for going all in (that guy is creepy - I will forever see him as Pennywise). I watched it with a crowd and they were very into it. It's a curious experience; not one, however, I'm likely to repeat.

I found it simply far too campy. I'd just like to point out that I'm not a fan of campy films. However there are quite a few scenes in the film that are very well done, not to mention the time warp is damn catchy. I was never bored during the film but I'd be lying if I said I really wanted to see it again. I'm glad I've seen it once but that's enough for me.

I was unfortunate enough to see this for the first time in a theater packed with godawful "fans" who sneered at you for not participating in their fandom. The movie is actually somewhat fun in the privacy of your own home, but its moronic fanbase has ruined it for eternity.

The world can be split into two groups based on this film. There are the squares, like myself, who simply don't find it anything special, but rather weird and even quite annoying because of the other group of people who are way too into it. To each his own, I suppose, but this movie is not the most approachable of pieces out there by any means. Crap!

I had a lot of fun with it! Musicals always feel so drawn out and long enough that I never actively seek them out, and while this felt a little drawn out toward the last act, I thought it was generally really well paced and just heaps of fun! The cast and crew gave it their a-game. Amazing production and costume designs, catchy tunes, some really good laughs and comedic timing, and a cast that’s irresistibly likable and sexy. Very campy, very horny, very funny. How can I get a hold of Magenta?

I think most people fall into one of two categories regarding Rocky Horror: 1.those who don't get it and 2.those who are just looking for an excuse to wear fishnet stockings in public. And while the story is about as deep and insightful as a TV Guide listing, the songs (especially the lyrics) are brilliant.

A satire of conservative values and an endearing homage to old horror and science fiction, in which the monster is the depraved sexuality of a new generation. The songs are catchy, the choreography is silly and exaggerated, and the entire thing is just hilariously clever.

Good fun but I'm not keen on all of the songs and the plot kinda falls apart, turning quickly into a series of sketches. Pastiche is great but perhaps with a stronger unifying message I'd enjoy it more. The songs are indeed great though, probably the only time Meatloaf hasn't sounded ridiculously stupid singing the sort of tunes he's known for. Tim Curry is boss too.

I specially liked the first half hour or 45 minutes, when there are more and better songs. Then the movie goes a bit down in my opinion, the musical side is not that good and the story that never was that good (though at first at least it included some mistery) isn't strong enough to support the movie.

This movie made me really angry. Something like six of the songs are fantastic, and Curry rules, but otherwise it just sucks so hard. There doesn't appear to be any thematic depth or point besides 'ha ha! corsets and stockings! LAUGH, DAMMIT!', and it's trying really ridiculously hard to be audacious and controversial. Add that to the obnoxious-as-balls fanbase - I don't CARE if it's meant to be bad, that doesn't make it good - and you have an angry Bown.

I don't get musicals and I don't get androgyny. "Walk on the Wild Side" was never my cup of tea. So this movie really kind of mystifies me--I just don't get it. And when you don't get that out of this movie, all else is exposed--you see all the camp and the low budget and the horrid acting exposed for what it is. So I have no choice but to give this a horrid rating. It's horrid. Also it needs to be pointed out that Tim Curry is not remotely as good an actor as he thinks he is.

It's a film that frames the excesses of sexual liberation as something that can be harmful but still altogether celebrates queerness in spite of that. I don't think it has any strong narrative beats to play off of but the film just has so much fun with its mise en scene and visual flair that it is joyful to watch. It wore out its welcome on me in the final stretch and its novelties don't bear much fruit overall, but as a pure entertainment flick I think there's much to appreciate here.

Tim Curry is really good, the visuals are memorable, and the queer retelling of Frankenstein's story that forms the core of the film is promising. Nevertheless, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" barely has a plot and emerges as an overstretched collage of mostly average music and pointless musical numbers. It doesn't bother with making sense or crafting characters with depth, and, despite its welcome attempts at celebrating sexuality, fails to offer a concise message or any emotional resonance.

I've heard (and liked) the songs before watching this film, and honestly I'm a little disappointed. I'm aware that the film has a cult following that give the cinematic experience an electric atmosphere but the film itself isn't very good. Plagued by poor production value, bad syncing for the musical numbers, and a 70's aesthetic that I'm glad left far behind, that all render the film almost painful. The saving grace in the cast and their energy. O'Brien performance is better than his writing.

This king of cult classics has a lot of interesting stuff going for it, including memorable sets & fun music that will stick in your mind for a while. It also features a fantastic performance by Tim Curry, fine & fun work from Sarandon & Bostwick, and a cast of supporting characters who all know exactly what they're doing and do it well. That being said, there's not too much of a plot to it and the shock-factor loses its spark eventually. Overall, it's a must-see, but not everyone's thing.

Presumably it is best experienced as a geeky communal experience in an old revival theater where the more nauseating elements are toned down or drowned out by enthusiastic crowd participation. Its cult status is easy to understand: it is flamboyant, camp and strange with lively (re:annoying) songs centered around the exploits of a transexual alien played with the right mix of menace and mirth by Curry in a career defining role, but as a stand alone film it is strictly a love or hate affair.
