Middle aged wanna be rocker gets a chance to live his dreams and play a big arena show, but only if he's willing to open for the band who ditched him 20 years ago before becoming huge stars. The music is all appallingly lame, but Rainn Wilson is funny enough to wring a few laughs from the predictable wish fulfillment premise. I really didn't need to see so much of his naked ass though.

The film's ridiculous opening is unfortunately where any hint of real silliness ends; it's subsequently an unfunny mess of weak gags and nauseating sentimentality, while the so-called rock music is all limp teenage drivel. Rainn Wilson does well attempting to hold it all together nonetheless.

A film that seems destined to get a one of this, "actually, in retrospect, this is a real misunderstood film that is wonderful." It isn't, but it is watchable. So there's that.

I laughed a little. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it is basically a kids' movie, so the humor was way too safe for the subject matter. I guess I'm overrating it because it is probably funny and inoffensive enough for the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" crowd. Warning: not dirty enough for adults!

It mostly worked as a rock-n-roll comedy, had some decent music and average silly drama. Christina Applegate and Emma Stone were a nice treat. Rainn Wilson was ridiculous, absurd and tragically comical, Good entertainment but a bit idiotic at times. Overall, I enjoyed it. It's lowest points was everything relating to the rock band Vesuvius and some of the icky humor. Worth watching, but probably only once.

A mostly enjoyable comedy that has good heart to it. Wilson is almost pushing the ridiculousness of his character too far, and the young band members are so cliché that they are bordering on the line of ruining the film.

Fish is a washed up '80s hair band drummer recruited to play with a high school group at the prom. Things might just turn out OK ... if he can only keep his clothes on. (pluggedin.com)

Top badass moment? The ending is terribly clichéd, but who doesn't want to get one over on someone who got one over on you years ago? It's not very grown-up I know, but it's certainly badass. There's nothing like holding a lifelong grudge! I like this movie far more than I actually need to. The weakest parts are the crappy indie rock numbers; no self respecting metal crowd would ever go for them. It's like trying to replace Def Leppard with Coldplay. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

A surprisingly good redemption story. A little crude at times but not nearly as bad as most current comedy films. The music makes the movie awesome! Overall, I was surprised at how much I liked the movie.

There are a lot of funny people in this movie and there are many funny scenes. However the movie's ending let me down, it goes to far to one extreme. This movie has a lot of potential but the ending disappoints.

The previews were terrible so I avoided this like the plague when it came out to theaters. I happened to catch it on TV sometime later and it really wasn't that bad. It's funny and has enough charismatic actors to carry it through the moments when it is completely by-the-numbers.

In general "The Rocker" is properly shit, with a multitude of awful songs. That said I did enjoy the opening sequence, which was by far the movies highlight, and there were a few chuckles along the way. I like Rainn Wilson too, but watching him do his best Jack Black impression isn't too much fun. Even so, he remains the only reason to watch this movie, which overall is an underwhelming, uneven and predictable comedy.

pretty much school of rock, except worse. A die hard rocker gets kicked out of his band so forms a band full of children to try and rock harder than the band he was kicked out of. The beginning is funny cause there are a lot of funny actors in Vesuvius. Then you're left with Christina Applegate and the girl from superbad. The lead singer of fish's new band is probably the worst actor ever.

It's like every part in this movie was written to be played by more popular and more talented actors. The main guy? Will Ferrel. Fat kid? That fat kid from Superbad. Etc.

Too sugary by a mile. And disappointing because it never addressed the fact that this guy who practically used to play for Motley Crue is suddenly playing atrocious, commercial-sounding whiny emo garbage, and he never even confronts these kids about the fact that they don't rock. At all. And then we the audience have to sit through lots more music that does not rock.

Rainn Wilson really wants to be Jack Black, but I can't understand why: he's mostly an annoying, smug imbecil. But if this is the road Wilson has chosen, then so be it: after all, options are slim since The Office is currently pure garbage that should be put out of it's misery.

Had potential in its opening scene featuring Will Arnett and Bradley Cooper in Rainn Wilson's first band, but after that the movie doesn't play to Rainn's strengths. He's not very funny and neither are most of the jokes. 'School of Rock' of course blows this one out of the water because of Jack Black's performance, which Rainn can't match. Nothing here is interesting, except the Vesuvius band members - and they're given little to do. As for the talented Rainn, hopefully he finds a better script.

First, the songs of the supposed band, is a crap, it seems high school music. Second, the actors of the band (ADD) are bad too. Third, I love Raynn Wilson in The Office, but here the director can not extracted your kind of comedy, is not funny to see him hit his head on the ceiling or fall. These 3 factors, detonate with the movie, which could be nice.

Honestly, I thought this started out with a bang - I was laughing really hard. Sadly, that didn't last long. It turns into a pretty by the numbers, predictable and uninspired movie with the occasional laugh, but nothing memorable. Rainn Wilson is a funny guy, I know, and so are a lot of other people involved, but this fell flat. Still, it could've been a lot worse I guess, and it's not like I regret downloading this. I would have regretted paying for it though.

This is an often funny, sometimes hilarious comedy. Rainn Wilson is pitch-perfect in the role of a forgotten drummer from a fictious '80s big hair band. The support is great and there are some predictable moments, but a fun time nonetheless. You could've sworn that Fish is related to Jack Black's Dewey from "School of Rock."

While it is not a movie you'll watch many times, it is entertaining enough to watch once. The character of Robert "Fish" Fishman would have been better played by Jack Black.

Strictly by-the-numbers and fairly predictable, but I have to admit that I enjoyed it if only because it seemed earnest and fully non-cynical in its desire to entertain. The majority of the cast is plucked from relatively classy TV comedies (The Office, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Saturday Night Live, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Human Giant, etc) and they serve the material well.
