The Road Back

This film had an opportunity to make a strong statement but lack the courage to do so. Instead, it used humor to soften the film, and not all of it worked.

Odd it's not a better known anti-war film. The movie starts with the end of World War 1 and we follow our soldiers on their way home and adjusting to post-way life. It's a very sentimental movie and never misses a cue to try and get tears rolling. The entire idea is very ambitious so it's sad to know that they backed down on illustrating a lot of the political climate after the war. I'm sure they would have hit a stronger nerve had they dared to challenge what was going on in Europe at the time.
