There is a sound rework of this novel which starred Conrad Veidt which was quite good, though in German. But this silent adaptation of Claude Farrère's novel "l'Homme qui assassina" is fairly good too. It's a soapy romance about a woman, her abusive husband and her lover. But George Fitzmaurice, who was a decent director in his day, captures the mood nicely with stylish visual touches. It's not masterclass, but still a quality job and Mae Murray along with her two lovers do their parts well.
