The Reptile

A minor Hammer horror, but great sets and Victorian atmosphere.

Unlike The Witches from the same year, this was a fun romp and much better than it had any right to be.

Problems: may be the worst attempt at misdirection ever & everyone will likely figure out who the killer is the minute they walk on screen; its unclear how the male lead survives the attack; & the creature's makeup doesn't always work. Despite all this, the lighting, direction, settings & performances are all great & create an effectively foreboding atmosphere. The bite reactions/makeup - esp when the "mad man" cries, are also wonderfully creepy. As are some of the moves & moans of the creature

Em honra de Jacqueline Pearce (1943 - 2018). Ótimo filme de monstro da Hammer, Gilling é um diretor que não conhecia e tive uma agradável primeira experiência com ele aqui.
