Come in-if you dare. The opening-night gala for a new exhibit at Chicago's natural history museum is under way. But be advised: something terrifying wants to make sure no one ever leaves. (Paramount)

Utterly forgettable. So much so, in fact, I'm not even quite sure how to score it---oh, fuck it. 25.

I remember watching this on my old tv, which had a problem with it's black level, basically making it impossible to derive anything visually from when the protagonists enter the basement till something catches fire. To this day I'm convinced my old tv made it at better movie.

The dialogue sucks, the acting sucks, the monster looks like crap, and this is probably the worst lighting job of all time. Need I say more? Gets a 7 because it was good casting and I really enjoyed the book.

As if THE TOWERING INFERNO had substituted Alien or Predator as its threat, this wears its cheese on its sleeve, but it’s a fun, entertaining ride, especially when utilising its off-kilter supporting players to add some spice, especially Hunt playing the blithely clueless “JAWS mayor”. Perfectly fine (though strangely anodyne) monster effects by Stan Winston are not the only overt JURASSIC PARK call-backs, but the film can stand on its own as a modestly nifty creature feature.

Boring. Decent enough to keep watching for a while. Everything about it is average and perfunctory.

Part of me hates this movie, but then another part of me thinks it's a mistake to really have any feelings about it at all. The premise isn't bad ... mutant DNA leaves have the ability to turn someone into some kind of hybrid reptile monster if they chew on them. Wait ... that does sound pretty bad if I say it out loud.

For a decent creature feature with bloody killings and well above average FX, this movie is incredibly boring. Stop saying hypothalamus.

How can a movie directed by a DP be lit so horribly?

Hyams tends to work with middling scripts, but he knows how to shoot. Unfortunately his preference for low key lighting doesn't always translate well on home video formats where the details of his intense contrasts are inevitably lost. The Relic is a standard monster-on-the-loose-in-a-confined-space thriller, and Winston's creature is an obvious amalgam of Alien and Predator. It isn't particularly original, but Hyams transforms the museum setting into an evocative shadowy subterranean space.

I distinctly remember not liking this movie back in the day when I really liked these types of movies.

I'm not sure if I genuinely enjoy this or if it's just a massive guilty pleasure packed with nostalgia. Either way, it's good fun.

Quiz time! Which is more implausible: a huge reptilian creature from South American mythology who is crazy for decapitations running amok in a Chicago museum, or Miller as an evolutionary biologist? That's right! Both are equally implausible.

Starts out alright, but once the "action" really begins it slavishly goes through the motions and becomes fairly boring. The CGI looks like it took 5 dollars and 5 minutes to make.

The only reason I gave it such a decent rating is because I love the two guys that wrote the novel this movie was based upon. Preston and Childs. Check them out.
