Pete and Ellen have reared Meg as their own, ever since she was a baby and her parents took off. Now a teen, Meg convinces her friend Nath to come help with chores on the farm: Pete isn't getting around on his wooden leg like he used to. When Nath insists on using a short cut home through the woods, Pete gets quite agitated and warns him of screams in the night, of terrors associated with the red house... (imdb)

Despite managing to create some tension from the beginning, both the premise and the narrative are sloppy for the most part. Edward G, as always, gives a lift and the yougsters provide more looks than anything else. Not a total drag, but would have been a better fit in an anthology as a heavily cut version.

Robinson again in a creepy role where he's pulled by a restless fate, he fits the role like a glove. It is perhaps a tad long, but engaging throughout. The photography really marks the stark differences between the bright sunny daytime and the creepy foreboding nighttime, it works well. All in all another noir worth watching.

Driven by the excellent Edward G. Robinson, The Red House, is a decent horror noir. It could have been trimmed down a bit. The other acting is decent also. Would have been better if you couldn't guess the ending from a mile away.

Went into this blind, and wasn't sure where they were going with the almost supernatural build up of the woods and the red house but wasn't disappointed.

Creepy noir that slowly works its way under your skin. At first it seems rather plain and wholesome, but the mysterious references to "the red house", uncovering of dark secrets and disturbing sexual undertones build a hypnotic tension. Lon McCallister comes off as too earnest, but the other performances are very strong. The score is often lovely, but far too prominent. The visuals aren't flashy, but serviceable, with a few nice shots especially near the end (including a chilling death image).

Edward G. hams it up in this overripe, soapy thriller. Badly aged.

Builds a creepy, unnerving atmosphere really well, but takes a little long to get to where you basically know it's heading. Great use of shadows and a standout performance by Robinson, almost a perfect role for him.

Took a while before I found the mood of this one. Edward G. Robinson plays a aging woodsman and all we know is that there are secrets. One things get revealed the intensity increases greatly. The atmosphere reminds me that of low budget creepers of the 1950s and 60s. There's a lot I wish was different about Robinson's first venture into producing, but I do admit they got there in the end.

This could've been an all timer but it does drag in the middle. One of Robinson's greatest performances unhinged and beautiful.

Entertaining noir with a fun performance from Robinson (playing an interesting character well) and a legitimately interesting mystery that doesn't really start coming into focus until closer to the end (though it's pretty clearly telegraphed as it gets closer.) The first woods scene at night with the wind whipping is great. Good stuff. Very underrated; glad I found it.
