This is the story of a young woman (who lives in Los Angeles) with a very boring job. At night however, she and a male partner cruise the bars as swingers. After a time, she begins to believe that a conspiracy exists and decides that she must become a born-again Christian. The movie presents an interesting view of how even the most unlikely person might become born-again. (imdb)

Flawed but so mysterious and unique that it's easy to overlook the downsides. From early on I had no idea where it was going and several narrative turns caught me completely off guard. It attempts to tackle the idea of faith (as a Christian concept) in an engaging & even way. Daring, uncompromising and darkly hypnotic although not the most polished or well structured piece of storytelling. Interesting, enjoyable and quite without comparison.

Engrossing, hypnotic film which quite viciously challenges the notion of religious belief -- and the cling to/rejection of its dogmatism -- telling a story likely to be profoundly confronting regardless of which side of the argument you sit. If nothing else, it also provides an unexpectedly meaty showcase for Rogers; any of the minor flaws in the story-telling and other performances are more than compensated for by the recklessly daring spirit of the enterprise, leading to a perfect finale.

Not many films r about an individual's search 4 something as profound as meaning or purpose. And that's only the beginning of this film, which is what drew me in & kept me hooked from there. Unfortunately it sometimes feels like a long waiting game from that point, but the ending is as ballsy as ur ever going 2 c & well worth the wait, as it pulls the plug on the idea that God granted humans "free will" by following religious canon & Judgement Day 2 their cruel, narcissistic & petty conclusions

I am not sure if I ever locked into this film's vibes. There's a mass shooting scene, and it's all so...quiet. I am unsure how else to describe it. But man, the third act is so, so strong. Perhaps one of the most haunting endings I have seen.

Can you love God when you don't understand his plan? Can you love God even when you hate what he let you do?

The last part of the film becomes too literal for my taste. This is, nevertheless, an interesting film about the challenges that devout believers invariably face. It pitches Christianity and God as a mystery to be discovered, tracing the arc of Rogers' character from sceptic to firm believer. Worth checking out, even if you don't know (or care) about religion.

Despite bearing a striking visual resemblance to Silk Stalkings, and with a pair of cringe-worthy performances from its two child actors, Tolkin pulls off quite a feat here with his tale of a troubled woman who bottoms out, becomes a Born Again, and is faced with an impossible decision on the eve of God's reckoning. Despite some goofy visuals and plot holes, the film strikes at the heart of what it means to have faith and to love a God who seems to play by rules that only he/she/it understands.

Strange, strange movie that never quite plays out the way you expect. Th middle sags a little, but the ending is really gripping. Despite what it may seem, it advances a very neutral position concerning religion and devotion. I really can't emphasize how strange this movie is.

A VERY interesting view of Christianity. One of the most memorable endings of all time, at least for me.

Incredibly dark, difficult to watch, but an amazing film. This addresses fundamentalism, faithlessness, and someone's inability to love in a way I have not seen. The acting, screenplay, and directing are all phenomenal.

This is 'The Room' levels of weird and awful, right down to the jumpy weirdly written and acted dialogue that isn't how normal humans talk, down to completely out of place sex scenes and nudity. The only difference is that The Rapture tries to say something, but it's so shittily written and weirdly conceived that there's barely two sensible ideas to rub together. Worth watching if you like The Room-like spectacle of bargain basement weirdness, otherwise don't.

This is a really magnificently strange film that does what no other film I know of does. It would be wrong to call it a Christian film, since it's not preaching or really asserting that Christianity is correct, but it's examining the logic of the world view and wondering what it would be like if it were literally true. It both acknowledges the deep and important reasons that people have fore believing and the fact that the line between faith and insanity can be very very thin.

There are not so many unsung obscure little chefs-d'oeuvres in the cinema history, so if you stumbled upon this one, there is absolutely no reason to not watch it at least once.

While the portrayal of Christians as a bunch of glassy-eyed vision-seekers isn't much like reality, the film does seem to care about taking them seriously. And in so doing, it portrays the challenges of any believer to hang on to their faith in the midst of the mysterious and the painful. Rogers is pretty good in this as well. All that said, the film isn't great--but its strangeness works in its favor.

Rapture straddles the line between displaying fundamentalist born-again Christianity as something completely serious and something completely crazy. Ultimately this results what I believe is an unintentional ending: God exists, the rapture exists but God is an asshole and the protagonist knows it. Also it has David Duchovny with a bloody righteous mullet.

Don't agree with the portrayal of Christianity, but it takes Christianity seriously. The film does a good job of keeping your attention.
