The creepiness is done quite well to make you feel icky after watching this.

if you enjoy topics like incest handled with the levity of a teenage dramedy and high school girls saying "fuck" a lot, while referring to actual intercourse (!), this is your thing. there's an interesting concept buried beneath a horrible execution. whoever jamie babbit is, she sucks big time. elisha cuthbert was a live grenade back then, though.

A surprisingly thoughtful thriller, given the vaguely lurid subject matter. "Dark suburban secrets" is not new thematic territory, but The Quiet puts a clever and compelling spin on the concept.

The set-up creates some interest, which is fairly quickly dissipated.

Elisha Cuthbert and Camilla Belle are hot but this is a bad movie with a trouble story.

Though the movie doesn't really wrap its suspense very well nor provide anything really surprising, the atmosphere it sets and the dominating uncertainty surrounding all the secrets which each character holds make the film better than not. The performances, while not astounding, fit each character well, especially Edie Falco's perpetually drugged mother-character. I wish towards the end it hadn't gotten so cliche, but overall I enjoyed watching it for what it was.

I'm not a bit surprised by all the low ratings it got. I can see why people thought it to be an awkward movie that they probably felt uncomfortable with watching. I myself thoroughly enjoyed the movie though, and found it thought-provoking and intriguing. It's probably one of my favourite movies of all time. With a taboo story line and complex plot, coupled with superb acting and directing, this movie is a winner.

I'm not quite sure how to rate this...It wasn't terribly good, and just felt awkwardly scripted for most of it, but it wasn't awful either I guess. The secrets and surprises are not very secretive or surprising for the most part, but theyre still interesting.
