I've found myself watching sumo wrestling (and more recently axe throwing) simply because of the direct competition angle. Therefore this movie has the hook I want. Throw on top of it a stellar cast and a beloved director and you've got a time waster. Speaking as an employee, husband, father I find an absurd amount of value in time wasting. An absurd amount.

Once your movie loses Lance Henriksen, only a downward spiral remains. Most enjoyable when it gets pulpy. A pretty neat cast playing some colorful characters in a story that kinda fumbles towards an unengaging finale. I must've chuckled at every dramatic zoom-in. I'm suddenly imagining Crowe's role being played by Bruce Campbell and now I'm crying for What Never Was.

The worst part of this is that it had to come to an end. Raimi's trademarks are still on full display, but he so well understands the genre and motifs and stereotypes therein that the film becomes an expert exaggeration of every one without becoming outright parody. In short, it's fun as hell, a constant feast for the eyes, and loaded with a fantastic cast. This might be my favourite work of Raimi's.

Impressive watching Sam Raimi dig DEEP into that well of tricks to make gunfight after gunfight after gunfight look distinct and interesting. Great looking brown and gold cinematography all around; maybe I’m just delighted these days to see something that isn’t all CGI and green screen. Jarring to see pre-2000s Sharon Stone in a role where she isn’t getting her brains fucked out every third scene. Bit too much explosion / action movie BS at the end but all in all still good old west fun.

It's ridiculous, it's rowdy, and it's a blast. Sam Raimi is awesome in just about every sense of the word, but this time, a more than stellar cast, can do nothing but help. Hackman, Stone, and DiCaprio are fantastic and the characters they play and others are so lovable. Crowe was ok, as this was still his awkward stage in movies. Overall, The Quick and The Dead may not be the best western, but it's one of the most fun.

Although it's easy to dismiss it as an ego trip for Stone, and a rather questionable attempt at reinvention, she gives her co-stars generous space to flex their chops and definitely took a risk enlisting Raimi and Crowe, who didn't have much clout at the time. Raimi's style clashes with the setting, but his crash zooms and montages inject some energy into the rather stale revenge plot. It's ultimately a waste of everyone's talent, but it's that very talent that saves it from the scrapheap.

tam teşekküllü blockbuster. büyük ölçeği, göz kamaştıran prodüksiyon tasarımı, aptal eğlencesi, kamera kullanımı, kadrosu derken... stone'un diğerlerinin gölgesinde kalan performansına rağmen 90ların western dalgasında ön sıralara bile konulabilir. ne anlattığına çok bakılmadığını çünkü böyle bir filmde önemli olanın temalarla yüzeysel düzeyde oynayan gösterişçilik olduğunu gayet iyi bilmesi ve hiçbir şeyi sündürmemesi bile sevmek için yeterli.

Look i love tournament movies. Theyve always got plenty of zany characters & at least 2 cool action moments. This ones especially fun as the cast is full of stars, soon to be stars, and B listers. Henriksen is cool as always and he gets the most colorful character. The plot is standard. Stone does a good job as the lead. Ive always found raimis direction outside of his evil dead trilogy to be...safe? Lackluster? Cant find a word but you get the idea.

It's like a western script taken by Coca Cola, pumped full of sugar and artificial flavours, marketed by Saatchi & Saatchi and consumed by pock-faced teenagers. A little mouthful tastes good in a sickly sweet sort of way, but by the end of it you've had a gutfull.

The concept of a Raimi western initially seems quite strange, but his trademark direction works surprisingly well. The film itself is pretty unspectacular, looking and feeling like a made-for-TV western, but it's still a fun watch and has a decent cast (Hackman and Crowe being the standouts.) Young DiCaprio is a little shit though, I couldn't help but laugh when he got shot the fuck up.

It's not so bad, with a decent cast and quality performances to boot. I liked Raimi's direction on this one, particularly the screenplay. The plot was a bit cliche, a little morally ambiguous at times, but when it all boiled down to it it was a good vs bad type Western affair. Worth a watch though.

Great to look at as the camera moves in very Raimi-ish ways. But this story feels too serious for the form. That mismatch works against the overall result. Also, we needed more Woody Strode.

While it's not quite a parody of the western genre, it tweaks a lot of the formulas (with some very surprising choices in camerawork) to try to make it a little more interesting. Unfortunately, even with a good cast, there's not really enough new to make it more memorable than all the other neo-westerns out there. I confess to thinking it a hoot while watching (and wondering why the new sheriff wouldn't see wanton destruction of property as his first arrest). Fav: corpse crooks.

This felt like a shonen fighting series tournament arc. You've got your small handful of main characters you ought to care about, and every side character just makes up a wacky spectacle to throw a lot of wild cards into your mental betting until the real final showdown rolls around.

Vibrant and witty homage to the Spaghetti Western keeps its balance just this side of parody thanks to Raimi’s directorial smarts, and a first rate cast who play their roles resisting any but the most slyest of winks – Stone’s embodiment of a seething Eastwood/Bronson is masterful, but all must bow to Hackman, who pulls off one of the most spectacularly hissable villains this side of Henry Fonda (though given at least one scene to display his accomplished emotional range). Terrific fun.

This is a VERY mid 90s movie that is kind of nostalgic and fun if you don't take it too seriously. I'm not sure it's trying to be nearly as goofy as it is, but it's hard not to enjoy to some extent, and the cast is super fun, with Stone, Hackman, Crowe, Henriksen, DiCaprio (a couple of years before Titanic), Sinise, and others. It comes just short of revenge western parody. It's kind of disappointing given the level of talent involved, but it's a fun time nonetheless.

Pure pulp, but you know, it's Raimi. The cast has such a deep bench with some early performances from Leo and Crowe, but the stoic/cold performance from Sharon Stone weighed down the fun for me. At the decline of her massive early 90s run, even the fairly chaste Sam Raimi had to show a Sharon boob. What a weird stardom she had.

Cheesy as hell, but enjoyable enough, especially the explosive climax, which plays like a Michael Bay take on the Sideshow Bob rake gag. Surprisingly, it puts to waste a lot of great character actors, who don't get nearly enough screentime compared to Stone and the brooding Russell Crowe. Also, casting Sharon Stone as the lead in your 1995 film and keeping her bundled up in western clothing is a crime against humanity.

This movie is almost fantastic as it has a lot of style and the writing boasts a lot of solid one-liners and quips. But when the movie slows down and tries to have a narrative, it fumbles in trying to create any dramatic weight and the lead's personal conflict just comes out of nowhere and isn't very convincing given how she's written to contrast the pastor. When she has an "ends justify the means" mentality, it doesn't make much sense for to go off and cry after killing someone.

Basing an entire film around what is arguably the most enjoyable part of Western films seemed like a good idea on paper, but fails because it doesn't take into account what makes Mexican standoffs so fun in the first place. Since it failed to give us proper tension, there is little keeping us watching this film. The Quick and the Dead sidesteps some Western cliches, but falls victim to others while showing off poor execution on parts that needed to be pitch-perfect.

At times this film did have good acting, especially by Russell Crowe and Leonardo Dicaprio, but at other times the acting was somewhat mediocre. A film about a duelling tournament in the Old West gets my attention immediately but this is done well, with pitch-perfect direction from Raimi and supported by a memorable band of cartoonish characters. Unashamedly stylised and full of stereotypes, it probably appeals more to casual fans of westerns than lovers of the genre, but that’s fine by me.
