A solid movie with some great performances. I admire its realism and intelligence, but it doesn't affect me much on an emotional level. I'll concede that that's not necessarily the point, though.

Not a great movie, but a well-executed one. I don't know much about the royal family or Britain's relationship with them, but I found the subject very engaging and a bit enlightening. Of course, one must be careful to take it with several grains of salt... obviously the bulk of the film is conjecture, but I would assume they got the gist of it. It seemed very even-handed, at least. The business with the stag was awfully blunt, though.

Mirren and Sheen are both wonderful as the at-odds Queen and Blair struggling to cope with public reaction to the death of Diana. Mirren's headstrong and intelligent Queen is perfectly juxtaposed with Sheen's Diana-like Blair, who seems a bit of a bumbler but nevertheless to have his finger on the nation's pulse. The tension is often palpable, but the film is at its best when it is at its most human--the Queen's Land Rover moment being the shining example. Great stuff.

Infuriating subject matter. The elitist excesses of the Royal Family underline how anachranistic the British Monarchy is in 21st century society. Thought Phil the Greek and the Queen Mum made a great "axis of insensitivity", but apart from their portrayal this is just an endless stream of snivelling, sychophantic Dianna & Betty arse-kissing. Most importantly, Cherie's arse wasn't big enough to be historically accurate, but in all other respects McCrory was excellent. Vive La Republic!!

I feel like I know a heck of a lot more about Her Majesty. She is a fascinating woman. Although, ok, it was one freaking week!! I couldn't believe the big deal everyone made out of her actions. Whatever, she held her own and I applaud that. Amazing performances from entire cast. Interesting choices made with the use of archival footage interspersed with the rest of the film. Terrific camera work and dialogue.

Well done and well acted (if I were introduced to Helen Mirren and told that she was the Queen, I would totally believe it), I just don't think the subject matter was interesting enough to make this as good of a movie as everyone else seems to think it is.

Casts the Queen in a completely different light. Though it doesn't make her sympathetic to Princess Diana it does make the viewer sympathetic to the Queen, something which is no small feat. Helen Mirren is absolutely fantastic in this. While there's no action to speak of if you love drama and fantastic acting this is without a doubt a must see.

A bit too simple, and the editing could use some tweaking, but all that is inconsequential. This film belongs to Mirren, who takes the definition of the word "restraint" and applies it full force. Even when she is staring, blankly, ahead, Mirren is able to show us the torment she must feel regarding what tradition says she must do versus what the people want her to do.

A well-conceived film: Helen Mirren can do more with a single glance than most actresses show in a career, and the supporting players were dead-on. Fine cinematography, subtle politics, and deft editing put this in the top rank of 2006 films.

It does give a good insight into the events that transpired at Diana's death. Of course, I can't say how accurate they are. They do paint the British royal family in less than favorable light, but also there is still that humanity to them. Helen Mirren does kind of carry this movie with her performance, though. A bit too long a runtime for its own good, but well crafted, nonetheless.

Well-written and acted, the film is most notable in my mind for its exploration of the interplay between tradition and modernization. What makes the film so sharp, in my view, is its keen sense that the tradition does actually retain value, and remains quite necessary going forward, even as the overwhelming forces of modernization stand at the door, ready to take over. That the film does this while revealing the heart of the titular character makes it eminently watchable.

A very powerful and evocative film that will hopefully help people understand the monarchy's actions around Diana's death. Helen Mirren puts in a star turn here. After 10 minutes you don't really see her, she IS HRH. I never understood the whole Princess of Hearts balls myself. everyone seems to have been won over by that rediculously staged interview that Diana did and the reaction to her death was rediculously melodramatic. She went from being scorned to being a poor down troden figure ove

British movies tend to have good acting, so it comes as no surprise that this is true of The Queen. If we look beyond the acting we find a film that has trouble standing on its own. You're interested in what's going on, but ultimately the drama of the situation is so subdued that it's hard to get really caught up in it. I do think it was a film worth making, as the story has a rare psychological and political intensity to it.

This film just felt like one massive commercial exploitation of the Lady Diana's tragic death. And since I'm too young to remember much about her, I asked myself throughout the entire thing: Why should I give a sh*t? Films of this type always suffer the difficulty in trying to arrange a short narrative arc compassing what are complex issues in ways potentially understandable to someone unaware, but still interesting enough to those who know. This is an admirable attempt. The idea of the 'radical moderniser' in Blair actually helping to save the Monarchy's image is an honest twist on the old tradition vs progress trope. Image is the only thing the Monarchy has left, but it continues to work for them.

A slick surface and Helen Mirren's perfection can't hide how sloppy and ham-fisted this film sometimes is, falling into the same kind of overly simplistic tabloid fare that it purports to scrutinize. A lot of the dialogue could have been lifted straight out of one of those lame made-for-TV BBC royal exploitation flicks. It does occasionally manage to say some interesting things about our tabloid and television culture, and Michael Sheen and Sylvia Syms are very good, but this is a slight film.

The Queen isn't an amazing movie, but as far as giving us a backstage look at the lives of the Royal Family after Princess Diana's death, it's pretty entertaining. It loses some of its charm as it progresses, and the Queen comes across as quite unlikable for a lot of her time on-screen, but it's still a solid drama that will, for the most part, keep you entertained. It's a film worth watching, although don't go in looking for much surprise, because you won't find any.

Masterfully produced film; all performances are of an impeccably high standard, starting with Mirren's beautifully judged Queen Elizabeth, though where the film really shines is in Morgan's deceptively bi-partisan, multi-layered screenplay, which never aims for documentary realism, instead disseminating a mass of expository information on royal protocol, the role of the media/celebrity, and coverage of the divergent public views of the royal family. A truly remarkable (and very relevant) drama.

Michael Sheen is an absolute chameleon, but he's woefully miscast in a role that requires him to be kind, intelligent, positive - and somewhat antagonistic. What makes The Queen so riveting is Helen Mirren's portrayal. Her portrayal is near pitch perfect. It is respectful to Elizabeth II and to the stature of her office, but it is never an imitation. Her performance walks a fine land between grandiose and subtle.

"you were too good for them Diana!". Men strax därefter ges blommor och nigs det... och allt är som vanligt igen.
