Doesn't do anything that "The Body Snatchers" didn't, only this one has the benefit of being adapted from a Robert A. Heinlein book, even if it doesn't end up being a very good movie.

I like Robert Heinlein, but the moment we see the three main characters take on cover identities of a family on vacation but wearing suits to the UFO site, I knew to shut off my brain. To the script's credit, the characters don't make a lot boneheaded moves, but the film never really advances past the concept. The scope feels way too narrow despite a whole invasion. Reminds me of The Hidden and Animorphs. Fav scenes: Julie Warner in glasses explaining male gaze; Warner in bra revealing parasite.

Nothing great, but OK sci-fi.

The strange thing is, while it was made after Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, it's also an adaptation of a book that predates Finney's original novel. Still, it's clear that beyond a similar premise, The Puppet Masters draws from other similar films (heck, it even stole Mr. Sutherland); and even with different beats, it's not saved from being derivative, generic and unremarkable. Entertainment-wise, it does okay though, and I'm okay watching something that is this good at being okay

Good fun: basically an X-Files movie, right down to the physical characteristics of the young leads.

Philip Kaufman's version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers was a pretty good movie. I don't know why Donald Sutherland agreed to soil his own legacy with this terrible clone. Perhaps being loosely based on Robert Heinlein was supposed to give this leverage, but it's crap, really

The book is much more exciting but this is a pretty damn decent adaptation. Not without its problems but worth seeing
