The acting is fine in this movie. I really couldn't get into the story. Also the movie really drags in a few parts.

Ho-hum script using the Nobels as a setting for a very clichéd mystery-thriller type thing (reminiscent of some of Hitchcock's usual fare). Paul Newman doesn't really work as an alcoholic-novelist-meets-James-Bond sort of charater, both by the role's and by his own fault.

Paul Newman does his best Cary Grant in this sloppy and contrived Hitchcock knock-off. Too cute for its own good but it does have plenty of charm for the undemanding.

Almost TV movie just seemed to drag on in the middle; when I thought it was close to ending there was an hr left. Maybe better as a miniseries. Newman is charming as a fish-out-of-water drunk. Premise of an author falling into his own plot was interesting enough, but then the movie abandons all that and turns into a generic thriller. Some bad edits with the action sequences. Damn, the bad guy gets shot, then falls off a roof, then gets impaled. Fav scene: Newman admitting to writing pulp novels.
