The Princess and the Goblin

Another entry in the prominent only to me subgenre of “obscure animated movies that my wife somehow had and repeatedly watched on VHS as a kid and shows to me 30 years later”

Pretty in and out of consciousness while watching, but it seemed a badly executed and derivative story with awful dialogue and animation. Kinda half-assed the musical aspect of it. There were a couple of interesting sequences with the princess falling into dark places, but that's it.

The animation is spotty especially as it stumbles over how to translate the scenes of this book- in many ways one of the birthplaces of modern fantasy. Sound effects are a bit weak. But is this worth a visit? I think very much.

an underappreciated kids movie, it's really not bad at all.

It's pretty cheesy and nonsensical (The princess has a British accent but Curdie's American? Okay..) but was still a decent adaptation of a cute fairy tale.
