The Premonition

An underappreciated little number, I believe. An interesting example of the child-related supernatural horrors that were prevalent in the 1970s that leaves you guessing throughout. It is reasonably well made and atmospheric, with some decent camerawork and a fine score. The acting is good for the genre, Barber and Farrell doing the heavy lifting, while genre stalwart Richard Lynch is very watchable in an early role. The plotting lets it down a bit, but this is a good effort. Worth a look.

This felt like a missing Stephen King adaptation although it preceeds psychic power films like The Fury and Dead Zone. I can see why it has fallen through the cracks of time, as it’s too slow for it’s own good and not very suspenseful - but there's clear ambition and it's well acted. Unlike most genre films, I couldn’t tell where it was heading and that itself is a good thing. I applaud Arrow Films for rescuing films like this from obscurity even if it didn’t quite fulfill it’s potential.

A surprisingly sullen and downbeat thriller with a mild supernatural angle. Miserable people in a miserable landscape, check it out.
