Now, the original is obviously a far better action film, and although I love Black's scripts, this is his second-weakest one (>'Iron Man 3'). However: His and Dekker's "fuck it, let's just have as much fun with this as possible" sensibility rubbed off, and their playfulness made me want to rewatch some of the other popcorn entertainment underdogs that hit a similar sweet spot for me such as 'Deep Blue Sea' and 'Deep Rising'. So it gets my brand-new ultimate seal of approval: the fake thumbs up.

Shane Black Galaxy Brain: "Of course vaccines give you autism, we have to trigger the next step in evolution before the ice caps melt!" I should have picked Carl Weathers as my avatar. This was so scattershot, too ridiculous to take seriously and just a little too fun to hate on. It's like it was brainstormed in a Joe Rogan podcast.

Knock Knock Motherfucker! Shane Black is at your door and he has brought the 80s with him. This isn't just a movie, it's one giant 'Fuck Yeah' to all the kids from that greatest of decades, when every aspect of an actioner came together in the service of injecting pure testosterone macho-ridiculousness directly into the eyeballs of awestruck 8-year olds. It's loud. It's dumb. It's arguably movie of the year.

The cinematic equivalent of 10-year old kid playing with his Predator- and G.I. Joe-figurines. In that aspect it's kind of spiritually related to 'The Lego Movie'...but with the predator. 'The Predator Movie' if you will. Also: All of you responsible for my PSI of 55 need to take a long hard look in the mirror one of these days.

Like the previous sequels, this has wide ambition and adds on to the lore a bit. It's definitely a Shane Black movie, so it feels like his other three movies; plenty of decent action and directing, and quite a bit of humor, which inevitably makes it feel odd compared to the others. I also thought Munns character felt a little silly, and her acting doesn't make it much better. The rest of the cast is fine and it's honestly a pretty entertaining movie. A campy self-parody, if not downright silly.

Under normal circumstances having action scenes so dark and jaggedly edited that they border on indecipherable and a plot that at best feels rushed, would be considered something of a big problem for an action movie. So it's a testement to both Black's writing and the game cast, that this turned out so goddamn enjoyable. All the beats are there for a perfect Predator sequel - even if the rhythm is off occasionally.

Unjustly maligned by the critics who treated this as if it was just as bad as its (admittedly horrible) trailers. While certainly nowhere near as good as the first Predator, it's still a good bit of dumb fun, with Black and Dekkers rapidfire goofball jokes and quips bringing the fun and the muddled action scenes, Munn's slackjawed performance and lines like "He grew an exoskeleton UNDER his skin" bringing the dumb. Do not watch sober.

Flavourless action, tasteless humour (letting down a few decent jokes scattered throughout), and a plot without substance all contribute to an unpleasant dish. Neither schlock nor blockbuster action film, it was instead an empty mess of weak efforts.

You know you have a problem in a monster movie, when the three most boring things in the movie are the lead, the monster and the action scenes. Despite that The Predator is still everything I want from a Shane Black movie. Snappy dialogue, funny characters and well written script... albeit perhaps not perfectly executed. PS. Am I the only one finding it funny that a movie with this much hardware was litterally written by Black & Dekker?

the predator is so terrible that it should almost be a crime to pass this hot mess as 'tongue in cheek'. you can't just erase the identity of a franchise and chalk it up to being self aware and have the leads quip about 'eating pussy'. sorry to say this, but even the abortion called AvP is a better showing than this pile of shit. it at least TRIES to believe in itself as a Predator movie.

Uh so this is actually pretty great and I enjoyed it way more than I expected. Through and through a Shane Black movie despite some talk of reshoots. My personal enjoyment of this with a muted critical reaction reminds me of Chappie, another weird, dark, violent film with an off kilter sense of humour that wasn't appreciated. It's weird because indie audiences can deal with wild shifts in tone in like, Korean movies, but can't stand it in domestic flicks.

There are some distracting implausibilities (readily swallowing an alien ball you just discovered?), silly predator dogs that always seem like a contrivance, but there's a good variety of action sequences w/ Black's flair for clever detail (Munn hanging from the chair; the ship's force field), and a refreshing streak of un-PC humor, as well as a mega dose of testosterone-driven badasses which made the original feel too silly for me, but these days feels surprisingly different & almost daring.

A boring film that's extremely safe and uninteresting. What this film fails to capture is the suspense and quality filmmaking that made the first predator film so enjoyable. Most of the action is dull, quick cut garbage and a lot of the dialog was unbearably cringey, especially its attempts at "comedy." The whole thing with the child with Aspergers was the worst - so am I supposed to believe that having autism somehow makes you the "next step in evolution" and allows you to use alien technology?

This film is retarded. In a good way. It's dumb fun that isn't quite good enough to recommend or watch again, but good enough not to hate. The characters are one dimensional, especially our gun-ho lead whose machismo doesn't seem to fit the modern action film. And the amount of convenience/deus ex machina in this film is ridiculous. The only reason to watch is all the CGI blood as almost everyone gets torn to shreds. Olivia Munn as a top scientist? Still more believable than Christmas Jones

If your litmus test is the original Predator, then you could only be disappointed, but if you compare it to the more recent 2010 "Predators", then this is a step above, which is an achievement considering what normally happens to a series after thirty years of aging. I've always been fond of mindless sci-fi action, and you'll get nothing more from this.

Puzzlingly flat, at times borderline incompetently crafted and written sequel is a strange abhorration from usually dependable writer-director Black. Doesn't help that the film gives away its money shot far too early by putting a clearly visible Predator front and centre from the get-go; a decent cast struggle valiantly with their abrasively dumb and obnoxious characters, with only an amusingly cast Busey making any impact. A strange and unexpectedly disasterous misfire.

It's put together like a movie, much in the way Jurassic World is (I've been watching that with my son). But understanding someone's love and intention is so very different than enjoying it. I think you could find a situation where a Predator is scary enough without one upping everything with a DNA hybrid. The Predator is good in the way that Madonna's American Pie remake is good. At least the lyrics are pretty strong, right? Right? Riiiiiight?

Somewhere buried within "The Predator" is one hell of a film. Black's script boasts the thesis statements for five of them. Though it is exciting to see the titular creature back at it again, and in ludicrously graphic detail no less, and the devilishly psychotic cast do give it their all, it's just too inconsistent for it's own good, an overstuffed, if entertaining, misfire of a movie that just can't seem to decide what it wants to be at any given moment. Close, but no cigar.

The opening music and spaceship crash give a classic action/sci-fi vibe but it's inconsistent at best in the first act. The second act with its ragtag crew shows both comedic (see the motel bed arranging) and dramatic (see the ex-soldiers' haunting pasts) potential but then the comedy gets distasteful and the drama's dismissed. Then the third act's just a glut of suspense-less action (Casey's chair move was cool though) and a poor plot. An unlikable lead and confusing villain never help matters.

As I wasn't expecting, this pleasantly replicates much of the original's spirit, retaining some masculinity, much more violence, and the crude humour. It certainly doesn't have the simplicity of the original, packing in an overabundance of overexplaining the Predator lore, but it makes up for this by containing a consistent amount of Shane Black-isms and some full-on and out-there violence, making this one of the more wild blockbusters in recent memory.

This was most certainly never meant to be a Predator movie. It was unrelated, and then re-worked into it. It shows. I just don't feel Shane Black was the best choice for this property, so while the cast is mostly serviceable, if not entertaining, the film still has a really hard time deciding what it wants to be in the end. Too much comedy for an action, too much action for a comedy.

This is terrible;Shane/the studio seem to have bottled it on his original script and filmed multiple end scenes because they didn't have a strong enough idea (there's an ending with Ripley from aliens for Christ's sake). The dialogue is embarrassing at times. At this stage there's more bad movies than good in this franchise.

Shane Black's style of writing may not be the best fit for this franchise in particular. In the end The Predator is more interested in making you laugh than putting you in any real suspense. Is this a problem? Well depends. Because for better or worse, this film is done in the style of the 80's action glory days. Brutal, funny, quippy and overall doesn't have much to say. Again is this a problem? Not at all! The Predator is a hilarious and action packed call back to a time long passed.

How bad is this new Predator movie ? It's Terminator: Genisys bad. A franchise film, too big to fail, limping along trying to "subvert expectations" of the original film and go for something new without succeeding in it. Shane Black "eating pussy" jokes and paper thin characters (read : cannon fodder) do not a good predator film make. The original had a simple and effective formula : survive an encounter with a superhunter from the stars. This doesn't even try to believe in that simple premise.

ALOT ended up aggravating me about this movie, but lets focus on it hardly wanting to focus on a Predator, even mocking the name "predator",then making the bulk of the action take place against a 12ft Predator thing who just barges his way through everything like Hulk only if MCU thought to occasionally put their GIANT in stealth mode. It's all wrong, and there's only 2 brief, brief scenes of a predator doing predator stuff and the rest is unrecognizable as either a Predator or a Shane Black film

Having only seen the first Predator this is extremely at odds with what I want. There are some good laughs, a few good deaths but then what else? It's incredibly generic and lifeless, the mixture of horror/comedy/action didn't work because nothing felt menacing. Predator managed drama along with some badass moments and good direction, this felt so painfully average. It was a waste of the Predator itself. Slipped into tedium a little too often to even give a minor recommendation.

Equally-fun to mock as it is to watch, I can't say that "The Predator" fails to entertain! Like I had a good time with this; granted, I had to create a good chunk of that myself (in an empty theatre, before anybody gets all uppity). This is not what I would classify as a "good" movie, but it is one that's worth taking a look at, if for nothing else, the 90's feel coupled with the badass vision of the future of the Predator character. Unanswered questions sure, but that's what sequel machines do.

I liked it - but specifically only as a in-theater Blockbuster. The plot is pure trash, there's a kid as a prominent character, honestly this movie doesn't deserve to be good - but it delivers on really solid humor and action when its not following blockbuster formula. They gave Olivia Munn ass to kick (YAY) - Yvonne Strahovski was wasted as "boring wife character" - Keegan-Michael Key gets to make jokes! I'd be really interested in seeing a cut where the kid is stripped out as much as possible.

This entry of the Predator franchise isn't good...like at all. The dialogue for this film was absolutely horrendous, and I found few lines entertaining and more so extremely stupid and outright offensive. The last hour of the film is just one big action sequence and is entertaining at that, and the father/son arch is nice to see, but there really is no substance of actual plot. I really enjoyed this incarnation of The Predator up until the final 10 minutes. Holbrook was thoroughly inconsistent as the lead; he couldn't carry his solo scenes but was fine when surrounded by the rest of the cast, whom I rather enjoyed. The irreverent tone and dialogue made a otherwise bland action film rather entertaining. The first part of the film was great at showing-not-telling. Here, it's got a decently entertaining first half with enough chuckleworthy moments to let the flick hold its own, but then it turns into what is essentially a kids movie but with gratuitous violence and cursing to emphasize that it's actually NOT Spy Kids 3 (or what-have-you) and it's actually very adult--Vincent Adultman levels of adult.

Holy fuckballs what a pile of shite this is. It really shouldn’t be that hard to make a passable Predator flick, but repeated failures hopefully mean this franchise is consigned to dust. I will admit to getting a little bit of guilty pleasure syndrome from this though. I must make sure never to watch it again so as not to have it worm it’s way into my ‘so shit it’s kinda good’ files.

I've started watching it a month ago and tried to finish it a few times, but it's not gonna happen. Ever.

I am not really a fan of the franchise. With that out of the way... The movie feels like a flick from the 80s with dull and awkward dialogues. Some of the deaths were funny, some silly and some a bit emotional (because I liked the actors, not their role per say). Would I recommend it? Yes, if you are doing something else whilst watching it.

There are enough good performances, characters and jokes in here to make the film better than I expected, but then there are also some exceptionally misjudged ideas and lines that have made their way into the script. The action is only alright and the movie loses steam in the final act, but overall it was reasonably entertaining.

Shane Black's dialogue seems to work better in 1987 than it does in 2018. Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe not, but there is such an uneven tone in his "sequel" that zero tension is able to be sustained. It's a mess filled with CGI silliness.

Solid AF, but of more interest: how fans react. They reject all, yet can't say what the series should be. The sequels already flow thematically, it just took Shane Black back on the table to finally prove it was never Predator desired. They're nostalgic lovesick for time&place allowed manifestation of latent homoerotic desires in socially acceptable heroic machismo. But even if sequels had hot sweaty muscle men mumbling lines as taken 1 by 1, its too tied in 80s emotion & repression to mimic now

It felt like it wanted to be a 80ies action movie, but failed to capture the panache headlining actors would have given one back then. This one feels like it's trying so hard, but failing flat. Some of the humor is just too much, and the injuries in the fight scenes are more comical than anything else.

It's Black's own fault for setting this movie during Halloween instead of Christmas, as is Black's way.

The dialogue and jokes kill this movie. The story itself is pretty damn dumb as well but I could have at least handled that. I asked myself if I would have like this better if it had been an original story instead of trying to make this a Predator film and the answer was yes I think I would have.
