The Pirate Movie

Tries to turn "The Pirates of Penzance" into "Airplane!" and fails spectacularly (if anything, it's more like "Disaster Movie"). Worth watching only for the sheer train-wreck stupidity of it all, if you're into that (you really shouldn't be).

Garbage comedy pirate musical. The only value is in nostalgia for Kristy McNichol's cleavage.

I love Gilbert and Sullivan when they're not in a Gilbert and Sullivan production. Would've been a dangerously flamboyant child if I saw this way back when.

Loved this as a kid. I should watch it again and see what I think now. Edit: Still enjoyable albeit quite cheesy and silly. Kind of in the mold of Airplane/Top Secret and Monty Python, although definitely not as well done. You can tell it was made for tweens and teens in mind. If you go not expecting anything of substance you should be OK with this movie.

Has moments of loony playfulness that make it watchable. But honestly, the joke-a-minute format really only works if at least some of the jokes are funny, and this movie *really* hasn't earned the right to send up Peter Sellers.
