Not a terrible remake of the Hitchcock classic, but ultimately it was fairly bland and forgettable.

Ivor Novello reprising his silent success as The Lodger (aka The Phantom Fiend). This time with sound, and more noticeable, without the master Alfred Hitchcock. It's not a bad remake. It's just not nearly as good as the Hitchcock version. They are kind enough to change some of the elements so that it's not a total rip-off of the silent film, but this doesn't possess the suspense of the 1927 adaptation and suffers a little from being a fairly early sound film. Not a total waste.
